Default transmission shifting

2005 XJ-8L

Rough shift 1-2
Occasional slow shift 2-3.

New pan and filter no change.

Was the correct procedure followed for topping up the fluid?

…..in my case, it took about 200 miles of driving before the problems cleared up after the service. First to second is still a little hard but no big deal. Oddly, it seems to shift better in Sport mode

yes, shifts smoother in Sport mode. slight loss of fuel economy because shift to 6th is slower in Sport, reliable at 51 mph in Regular mode.

Here is the response I got from ZF.....the same solenoid is apparently responsible for hard shift from 1st to 2nd and a slow shift from 5th to 6th gear. In my case, changing the fluid did the trick though I still have a slight lurch first to second. Next time I change the fluid I will switch the solenoidThe P0829 code is for a 5-6 shifting issue. The pressure regulator EDS3 comes on in 6th gear, but it also comes on in 2nd gear. I would suggest replacing all the pressure regulators with a ZF solenoid kit. You can purchase it at Eriksson Industries (800) 388-4418..
