Default Transmission - stuck!

So everything has been fine until recently. It got harder and harder to get out of neutral and into gear.

I pulled the J gate out, everything seems fine, and I put it back, but still doesn't go into gear.

I think it's one of the switches, and my guess is the one on the footbrake.

Can anyone please tell me how do you access that switch on an 04 XJ8.

Thanks

My bet is the shift lever bracket on the drivers side of transmission. It has 2 mounting bolts. They get loose and sometimes drop out. Tighten em up or replace as required.

This is a common problem and an easy fix on these cars. Lets hope that's what it is.

By driver's side you mean driver's side in a North American car?

And underneath the car?

I'll check them - I've checked them before - but I still think it is the interlock switch.

Goes to check....

I see that this switch also actuates the brake lights. Does that mean if the brake lights are working that there's nothing wrong with the switch?

OK I took

http://www.justanswer.com/uploads/cr..._XJ307-081.pdf

These out and loctited them and put them back tightly.

Having a break before I lower the car and check if that helps.

Car back down - still won't go into gear - or rather it won't go out of park.

So has anyone changed the switch on an x350?
