Default True Weight

On a number of websites such as JagLovers I have read weights for X350's that vary from as low as around 3400lbs to as high as 4200lbs.

For example, my book "Jaguar:All the Cars" says it weighs 3560lbs. But what is that? No fluids or driver? Some gas? Or what? 20 gallons of gas weighs about 170lbs. So that makes a difference.

I was in a Truckstop with a Catscale last week. I thought about weighing the car, but we were packed for travel with all sorts of stuff, so I would have been weighing all that with the car. I plan to get it weighed with about 1/4 tank of gas when it is convenient, but the nearist Catscale is about 1/2 hour away, so it will be a while.

Question: Anyone on this site know actual weight(s)?

Thanks in advance

Car and Driver listed the curb weight of their test 2004 XJR as 3974lbs. Curb weight is usually measured with all fluids and a full tank of gas.

Here is an example of the conflicting information I find about weights.

This brochure for the X-350 lists the "Kerb Weight" as 3560 for the short wheel base, and 3614 for the LWB model. These are for the 4.2 V-8, non-supercharged. For the supercharged models the weights are 3671 and 3724.

They are a bit all over the place aren't they. I have just checked a few of the owners manuals and the curb weight for the SWB 4.2 ranges from 3560 to 3770. LWB ranges from 3614 to 3845. The XJR ranges from 3671 to 3950!

They also list weights for a car with all options, 90% full fuel tank and a 75KG driver. The SWB 4.2 ranges from 3954 to 4122. LWB 4.2 from 3981 to 4173 and XJR from 4003 to 4242.

There was also this list which gives the weight in lbs of each optional item. Different markets have different standard equipment as do different model years so that may account for the variety of weights:

Optional equipment - 4.2 XJ8 only
Premium sound system 6.2
Xenon headlights 4.9
CD autochanger 4.4
Cruise control 3.5
16-way electrically adjustable front seats 4.6
Electric rear sunblind 7.3

Optional equipment - 4.2 Vanden Plas & 4.2 Super V8 only
Electrically operated rear seats 26.2
Rear multimedia controls 3.3
DVD player 2.6
Rear multimedia screens 7.9

Optional equipment - 4.2 XJR only
Rear multimedia controls 3.3
DVD player 2.6
Rear multimedia screens 7.9

Additional optional equipment - all models
Ski hatch 2.9
Heated steering wheel, half wood 4.0
Heated steering wheel, veneered 4.4
4 zone climate control 16.5
Navigation system 13.0
Headlight power wash (standard on Super V8 only) 9.5

Wheels and tires - 4.2 XJ8 only
Dynamic wheels with full-size spare wheel 0.0
Custom wheels with full-size spare wheel 49.6
Sepang wheels with spacesaver spare wheel 13.2

Wheels and tires - 4.2 Vanden Plas only
Rapier wheels and full-size spare wheel 0.0
Custom wheels with full-size spare wheel 25.4
Sepang wheels with spacesaver spare wheel - 11.0

Wheels and tires - Super V8 only
Custom wheels with full-size spare wheel 0.0
Sepang wheels with spacesaver spare wheel - 36.4

Wheels and tires - 4.2 XJR only
Performance wheels and full-size spare wheel 0.0
Custom wheels with full-size spare wheel 0.0
Sepang wheels with spacesaver spare wheel - 36.4

Note: The weights listed under Wheels and tires give the increase in weight over a standard set of four wheels: the figure only needs to be added to the curb weight once. The Spare wheel and tire weight must also be added, where applicable.

My old car had over 100lbs of optional equipment!

Default Got weighed at last

Well I finally got my xj8 to a public scale this morning. With 3/8 of a tank of gas and an empty trunk/boot it weighed exactly 3700 lbs.

I had a Mercury Sable some years back. A v6 with 140hp. It weighed 3500 lbs. So this big Jag is really a lightweight.

My wife's 2005 Camry weighs 3340.

BTW, a slight correction … gasoline is about 6 lbs per gallon and oil about 7.5 lbs per gallon. *So 20 gallons of gas = approx 120 lbs.

You raise a good point about vehicle weight. I'll have to weigh our XJ8 soon.

I've weighed my 2007 Z06 Vette on 2 different scales and it agrees closely with Chevy's data. It weighs 3070 lbs with no gas in the tank. It has an aluminum frame like the XJ8.

Norm,

I checked today. Gasoline weighs 6.8 lbs per gallon. So that would be 132 lbs for 20 gallons. I must have been guessing in my first post.

The figure I used earlier was for Aviation 100LL fuel which is 6.0 lbs per gallon and is a bit lighter weight than car gas. As an old flight instructor that is the value I pulled out of my head. I should have remembered that car gas does weigh a wee bit more than aviation fuel. My bad.

Car gas does weigh a little more than aviation 100LL but I couldn't find a consensus on just how much more. Competent answers seem to vary from low 6's to mid 6's. That's according to my 15 minutes of time spent scouring the internet.
