Default Trunk/bonnet won't open

I have a 2000 xjr. When I push the trunk button while the car is running and in park, it beeps and displays "valet mode" on the dash. I've tried using the valet key and pushing the valet button to no avail. The black will not open it from the trunk key hole and the button does work either. Help!

Did you try unlocking it using the primary key? You may want to try unlocking the doors with the power off and then try the trunk/bonnet.

Bump - you're in the wrong forum. The x308 guys can probably help you. The admin should be able to move this to the correct forum.

Also, you went from talking valet key to color of key? Are you referencing two different keys? (primary and valet)?

Is the valet button pushed in the glove box?

Thanks and yes, I always use the primary key as my fob doesn't work and I am way to poor to own this car. I've had it six years and it's 15 so you know how it is. When she runs well, you can't pry my hands off. When she's broke, f da hoe!

Bonnet = Hood.
Boot = Trunk

I have the exact opposite problem. My 'bonnet' won't stay up and my mechanic wants $140 to replace the hydraulic shock. I said I'll use my $15 hiking pole it's cheaper.

Cheers,

Thanks 624, I started to go outside and see if I could find a key hole on my hood somewhere.

Default Update on boot problem

I got it! I took the licence plate off, drilled a hole in between the top licence plate holes, then used a bent piece of wire to "Jimmy" the linkage to open the boot. Then reset the battery by removing the neg cable and putting it back on. In hind sight and looking at the diagram of the latch mechanism, I would have drilled the hole lower and just used a screwdriver. But this way you have to use "the trick" to open the boot. I sealed the hole with a piece of metal duct tape.

Beachskidder - glad you got it sorted, but at 2000MY yours is an X308, whereas this sub forum is for the X350, 2003-9. The forum you want is
XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

You'll get more help there than here

Cheers just now

Default Stuck in Valet Mode

My 99 XK8 came back from an oil change in valet mode. I do not have the key fob but I do have one of the "black" keys. How do I shut off the Valet mode?

Should just be a case of starting the car with the black key.

The car has been started multiple times with the black key. The book says to lock the doors with the black key, then unlock them. I don't recall seeing a button in the glove box, but I'll go take a look, Everything seems to work OK except the trunk opening button. I seem to remember that in Valet mode the performance is supposed to be reduced as well but maybe only if you start the car with the green key.

I can open the trunk with my black key, just not the button.

Check the button on the dash is not stuck in and then check the fuse for the electrical side of it.
