Trunk rivet nut

I'm looking for some info possibly from the Jaguar techs. I recently brought my '04 XJ8 to the dealer for the fuel door release lock to be replaced, it would not stay closed. This was covered under the extended Select warranty. To do the job the tech had to remove the right side and floor panels in the trunk. In doing so he managed to rip out the rivet nut that holds the right side rear luggage hold down loop. They gave me the nut but said the the loop and trim pieces were destroyed trying to free-up the bolt that holds them in place. Now I'm a Volvo Master Tech, ASE certified and 30+ years in the business. I understand about seized bolts but does this happen often or am I the victim of an over zealous tech pissed about a warranty job that pays .8? I've known and worked with a few of these types. Thanks George.
