Default Try this foggy plastic chrome fix...

Had some of this 3M stuff left over from painting my MG 1100 and figured I couldn't make that plastic chrome look any worse... and bingo! Finally something easy that works!

Recived the 3M stuff yesterday and tried it on the aluminum trim.......did not work. Will have to break-out the power tools and try it again...

I used a dewalt buffer and the appropriate pad that goes with that stuff... Can imagine doing it by hand. It's machine polish, says it right in the name . If you're being cheap maybe there's a drill mount attachment from harbor freight that will do the trick, good luck!

I always start by hand since I didn't want to ruin my paint finish. I have about 7 different types of power polishing machines for different applications as I used to paint cars, trucks, vans, boats, and did metal and wood-working. Will be using one of them today.

That's a good point. Maybe some blue tape would be in order.

This has been a very lazy morning, with the snow, ice, sleet, and the fact that I left my VDP parked in the driveway. My cat is now covered in snow and ice (19 degrees F), so I wont be doing any polishing today.

Hmmm, I have perfect-it in my garage, I think it is the only thing I have not tried. So far ATF is the only thing that does the trick. The problem with AFT is that the chrome has to be wiped down with it every time it gets washed or it rains but takes less then 2 minutes..

I have used just about everything out there and all recommendations from this forum, nothing works on what appears to be aluminum trim but works fine on the ss trim. The only thing left is to make an attempt to remove the plastic covering and polish the bare metal. That is now at the bottom of my to-do-list.
