Default Tyre pressure system failure

Changed my wheels the other day from the 18's I had to a set of 19's (Customs - standard wheels). Got no warnings at all on the way back from having them fitted, then got no warnings on the way to work the next morning, but then on the way home (again, not immediately, but while driving) the warning popped up.

So...this might be a stupid question but are there sensors on the wheels themselves? If so where are they? Can I swap them over from the old to the new? If so how?

Thanks!

The sensor is screwed on to the valve stem

OK, thanks.

Can I take them off and just put them on the new wheels? Can I do it or does the valve need to be removed in order to do this?

Its part of the valve, you'll want to have a shop do it so they stay put...probably need rebalanced too. The 'Customs' look good on the car BTW!

Ball sacks! I was hoping not to have that done. The rears are pretty low on tread so might as well wait until at least they need doing and have them swapped at the same time. What a pain in the backside!

Do you know if any special equipment is need to install/swap them or can any old grease monkey do it?

And thanks for the compliment. I think they looks awesome, Jag did a good job in the design of them for the pre-facelift car. My old wheels looked so rubbish in comparison I am happy to cope with a warning light to have these instead lol

It's not rocket science, any competent tire shop can do it. The rubber valve stem is replaced with a metal valve stem which has a sensor attached to it on the inside of the wheel. Since this is an OEM wheel, fitment should not be an issue. All you need is a tire machine to break the bead and fold the tire back and a socket to screw in the valve stem. You will need to rebalance the wheel, with all existing weights removed, as you have added the weight of the sensor.

Take care,

George

Quick follow up on this, hopefully someone can help:

1. Can the warnings be reset by me? Specifically the one telling me to check the LH Right Rear Tyre which is absolutely fine. If I could reduce the warnings back to the 1 about the entire system, that would be a start. Which leads me on to my next question:

2. Can the sensor system be switched off/ignored somehow? I would not be bothered at all if the system were inoperable to be honest so am wondering if this is possible.

Thanks all!

Dumb question, since the system can tell you what tire is low even the spare, if you rotate wheels will the system will keep tire location correct?
