Tyres for a XJ6 petrol

I recently put on a full set of Pirelli P6000 Powergy tyres. I had two on the front that gave me nearly 45k miles, so I was well satisfied. They cost me £138 each plus VAT = £662.40
I'm well satisfied with these, and I believe they were the original factory fitment. However, two years ago, I was a bit short of cash, so put on two Accelera Phis on the rear. These were very cheap and OK-ish, and although they never broke away on me, I suspect they aren't so good in wet weather. These didn't last as long as the Pirellis. More like 35k miles or so.
There are, of course, lots of tyre makes out there, and I suspect the Michelins will be OK, but have no direct experience.
My tyres are 235/50R18 97W, by the way
