Great looking XJ.
Can you tell me what type of wheel spacers you use?

Cheers

Hey there, I used H & R wheel spacers
Please note that these are Hubcentric spacers for the best fit / safety

Up early and into Prestige Jaguar, who are choca block busy as always. They got me in quite quickly and started on the processes for the day

First up was the power steering fluid change, last done 29.10.15

That finished it was on to the rear diff oil change.
Surprise surprise, and obviously as it was replaced by a newer unit 23.03.14 it actually has a drain plug!!

Checked and loosened the fill plug first and then removed the drain plug. The oil last time, was thick / gungy and burnt.....This time?
Yes it was darker than new fluid obviously, viscosity perhaps a little thinker and yes, a burnt oil smell to it, out it came.

New fluids were added, 1.25 litres iirc of golden fluid and buttoned back up

Lastly, onto the brake fluid change. Worked corner to corner starting at the back and he showed me that the fluids were a little on the dark side ( nothing to worry about ) just darker than the fresh stuff going in obviously.
Funnily enough this difference was more notable at the rear and not so much at the front, possibly due to the rears doing most of the work I guess.

That done, and as a wee Brucey bonus, he looked at my drivers side rear sill. The last inch or so has never really fitted perfectly, sitting outwards probably only by around 1/4" there or thereabouts, but.....It bugs the life outta me every time I wash / dry / clean her etc.

Turns out it was the last little clip that was broken, replaced this and snapped back nice n tight into the correct position

Around an hour and a half and £70.00.......bargain!!

Happy days

Jim

Took a wee trip into see the Prestige boys this morning..........

Both my keyfobs were starting to look a little tired, a little worn, also the buttons for headlights and panic alarm function were inop

So freshened up the buttons on the fob, all working now again and coded to the car, all good. I also noticed that one of the LED sidelights had given up the ghost, so just replaced them both as a set.

Quick visit, few pennies, all sorted, all good!

Jim,

Can you tell us the brand of the LED bulbs you are using? And are they the W5W/2825 size?

Cheers,

Don

Hi Don, I just got the Prestige boys to supply n fit them. They seem to have experience of the good ones and ones that fit / work / last etc

I'll try and get a picture tomorrow and text Dougie to ask him what they are and let you know as soon as.

Thanks
Jim

Hey Don, getting a little late and just remembered the pic of the led lights, probably just as well as lighting conditions were about right.

Took a couple from different angles so you can see....

They really make a difference aesthetically anyway. I remember vividly having another X358 behind me once with the std lights and just didn't seem to look the same, at least not to my mind.

I've message Dougie and he says he'll get back to me Monday, this means I'll have to remind him Monday and he may get back to me Tuesday lo

When he does I'll pass the info to you
Cheers

Wee oil change today at National Tyres......

Last one done 17.05.17 at 114,581 miles
This one 08.07.17 at 117,851 miles, cost £40

The service light had not came on but I was a little concerned at rising oil levels on the dipstick, service light reset all good for another wee while

Well, the ole girl was due an M.o.t albeit not until 11th October, but soon enough.

Probably like a lot of you, I tend to get mine done almost as early as possible, usually at least 2-3 weeks before she's actually due.....the date still holds for next year in any event!

The usual process is as follows......
She's cleaned thoroughly, washed n dried, vacuumed, tyres blackened and looking her best for the test. I've normally cast my eyes over the tyres checking depth / any obvious defects, lights all round, horn etc and of course fluids, not forgetting screenwash lol.

In short the basics are given due diligence, she's clean and tidy ready for inspection

I called Brian a week or so ago to get M.o.t booked and that was the only day he had until next Tuesday, so last Monday it was....

I'm suffering somewhat at the moment, loads of stuff going on and unlike me, just couldn't be bothered!
She was fairly clean anyway, tyres were fairly decent as far as I knew, lights all good from a few days ago, so basically just arrived, stuck her in and waited.

Tick, tock, tick tock, tick tock.............time dragged slowly by lol

Around 40 mins later I was given the news, passed with flying colours
An advisory for "slight play in rear offside wheel bearing"

I suppose they have to put something down sometimes, right..

Anyhow, all good for another year

Well I opted for new tyres after all, after a quick look some weeks ago, the existing tyres have around half their life left, but still, time for replacements

I'm getting these done for various reasons, the first of which is winter is approaching fast so best to have good tread available, hopefully this may be the last set I have to put on her too and they'll still be in good shape when it comes time to sell for the new owner, whenever that may be.

Heading back to Barums for this set with the Barums Bravuris 3HM as I've used with good results in the past
Full set worked out at £464.44 fully supplied and fitted
Less Barum 5% discount using BAR5 = £443.62
Less tyre disposal ( I'll take them with me ) = £435.62
Used tyres on Gumtree and sold for £80 = £355.62

Not bad really and the used tyres generally go pretty quick, snapped up by track day enthusiasts or someone on a budget.
Done.....

14.11.2017
Replacement key sorted and a few wee other things taken care of too..........
Well, as some of you may know I had a problem with a broken key a few weeks ago, really caught me out.

Sitting in a Jag with a pair of pliers trying to start her up is NOT very Jaguarish, I got a lift home and got the spare, all A ok, but wanted to get the spare replaced

I'd called and spoke to Dougie yesterday and he said to call in today whenever, so I did, around 10.30am

It's always really nice as you drive up, you get a wave ( knowing that they're chock a block with work ) and get waved right in to the workshop to get sorted immediately
To be fair though he was just expecting a replacement key programmed to the car, job done.

Do you have any wipers I asked? Just at that a couple of sets of wipers were delivered and one set was robbed for my car, fitted all good.
Want to do the air filter? I'm here anyway. Air filter checked, yes dirty lets get it replaced, sorted........

What about the fuel filter? You want that done too I suppose?
Yes please and might as well check and replace the pollen filter whilst you're there.....both done in quick smart time.

The only thing left to do is the engine oil / filter....I'm going to National later today and have that done too.

Prestige were awesome today, quick and efficient
New Key bob, blade added and programmed to the car, supply and fit replacement Jaguar wiper blades, new air filter, new pollen filter and new fuel filter £180.00
Happy days
Oil change completed at National Tyres £40.00, so £220 all in, not bad!

Well had a wee road trip today, early start around 5.30am and off to Inverness, cold, dark and lonely, roads nice n quiet, heated seats on with a latte to help me along. The average speed cameras ensure it's an uneventful trip and easy going pace is quickly established.
Head back down a few hours later, cut off at Dunkeld and cut across heading for the outskirts of Perth, before heading home.

Business was good, car is unbelievably dirty, been in a couple of quarries and mud all along the hind quarters, splashed up along the sills and the alloys are filthy...totally unrecognisable

Made me laugh though, my customer at Perth still had a 20 minute conversation with me as he discussed and peered into the "lovely ole Jag" lol
Just too expensive for him to consider though he says!

Get home late morning and my Sonax FULL effect wheel cleaner 5 litre tub has arrived, thank you cleanyourcar.com
Also find I have at last got the service schedule sheets for the XJ X351 in both 3.0d and the various petrol versions, so posted them up into the how to / sticky

There will be a car wash in my future shortly I can assure you.
Also may be having a wee road trip south on Saturday, heading for Stoke to see my sisters and brother, have a catch up and pay respects to my dad. It's his birthday on the 10th and he'd be 74, taken from me back in '72 when I was 8 years old. Still miss him and feel more than a little short changed somehow lol

Youngest son Connor coming along too so that'll be good, after a night partying hard and in catch up mode, we'll have a storming breakfast and then take a wrath along to the cemetery
Cheers

Heard a whining, seemed to be coming from the rear several days ago, convinced it is / was a wheel bearing.....

On moving / driving and parking the car a few days ago I thought I smelled a "hot" burning smell and checked the wheels / tyres and pep, sure enough the drivers rear was a little hot.

Last night I felt the brake stick a little and thought oh oh, braking issues here we come, sticky caliper probably, so was waiting at Prestige Jaguars doors this am at around 7am and as usual they slotted me in.

Did their checks and yes the rear caliper was sticking and so replaced along with the other side too and a set of pads £345 all in job done.

The only downside?

The noise is still apparent so wheel bearing too by the looks of it, unsure if it was on its way out or cooked by the sticky caliper issue. That being said I've never changed them in my ownership and so unless done previously would be the originals and therefore not too bad at 128k miles

I'll be going in early January to have that replaced

Jim

Well, the end of this thread is almost upon us, it's time to pass the ownership of my beloved XJ X358 onto the next custodian, hopefully they'll love it like I did and still do.

Plain and simple, I do slightly more than average miles and she's now at 130k, not giving any trouble at all, but time for a change.

It's Not an Autobiography as I had originally intended, but a Portfolio LWB in black with many extra options, basically Autobiography spec with London Tan leather, see here.....

Assuming PDI etc goes according to plan I hope to collect Thursday morning.

Thanks for all the comments and interest

Jim

Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words.

I am really looking forward to the new car, the new toy, but it's tinged with sadness as it's time to say goodbye to my trusty Cat

Jim,

What are you doing with the current car? Trading it in, or selling it privately?

Beautiful color combo and that leather is absolutely stunning! I am guilty of looking at the x351’s from time to time, since it can be considered a bit blasé to have two x350’s in the stable, but they have been so good it is hard to give them up. Give it time and I will probably be there with you.

I hope you enjoy your new ride!
