Hi Mr White,
I'm not trading her in, she's way too good for that.
The dealer will give me rock bottom price, wash her and add around £3k - £4k and she may go to god knows who.

I'm selling privately and asking a fair price, she's had a serious amount of work done to her, all documented and around £2k in the past 3 months incl new tyres all round.
Thanks
Jim

I hope you enjoy your new ride!

Thanks ChillyPhilly, appreciate the kind words.
I love the leather interior, that colour really is something and quite rare, looking forward with happiness to my new ride, but tinged with sadness to see my ole girl go.

She and I have many happy memories and plenty of smiles per mile

It is extremely bittersweet.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

You might not be selling her as much as interviewing potential applicants to see it you can find her a suitable home.

Thanks, funny you should say that.

I've only put a small advert on Gumtree, not pushing hard as I do not have the V5 Logbook ( owners papers ) back yet from changing my private number plate yet.

Both were more or less interview style phone calls. Initially asking to lower the price by £1000 to which I immediately said no, I wanted the asking price as she was worth it and I would wait.

As I'm using the car up to late on Saturday, then she has to be cleaned etc and await V5 Logbook, it will be well into next week before I can give the sale my full attention.

The 2nd called seemed like a Jag guy through n through, having had several over the last 20 years or so. First impressions are good and I hope we can see eye to eye and perhaps get a deal done, with the car going into his ownership......time will tell

Yes, I'm looking forward to the new car too, up and at them around 5am I will be off down the road a bit to pick her up

UPDATE - Taking the X358 down to collect the new Jag tomorrow, one last adventure together

Peter my son will be coming with me and enjoying her on the way home. With that in mind I washed n cleaned her today, the usual process under the bonnet and engine bay, the tail pipes etc, inside n out and tyres blacked.
Have to say she was looking really good, so much so I received 2 compliments, 1 guy standing chatting for around 20 mins lol

Five minutes ago - I received a call from a lovely guy called Billy, he called me yesterday about the car and expressed an interest, we chatted for ages. He just rung 5 mins ago and said he wants the car and can arrange immediate payment , so basically, subject to the deal actually being done, the car is SOLD

Happy and a little sad all at once lol, I expected to have her a little longer

I have to say I loved and do love my X358, but this is quite simply an evolution of sorts, above and beyond in many respects

Very pleased

Well, this'll be one of the last posts I make into this build thread probably, unless any comments or questions arise as it'll remain open, but she sold today.....

Quick story of how we bought Connor's X type first. It may be that I have the most trustworthy face ever lol

We bought the X type from a guy in Liverpool, exchanged a few emails / texts and phone calls then arranged to travel down to see / buy the car. We got there and were met by some really nice people.

The car was beautiful, in really good shape and everything was in order, we bought the car. It cost £7000 and Connor made the transaction through his bank ( which the previous owners saw / heard ) and had a coffee / biscuits while we waited on it hitting their bank.
Around 1 and a half hours later the money still wasn't in their account, they said listen, it's fine, we trust you, why don't you just go?

I was amazed but took them up on their offer but said, everything wil be fine, any issues please let me know and off we went. It actually was all fine and nothing more had to be done.

So, fast forward to a few days ago...

I'd decided that the time was right to sell the X358 and so had taken my plates off the car, this of course meant that the V5 was / is in the system and will get to me at some point. That being the case I didn't want to advertise too heavily, just a post here and a small quickly put together advert on Gumtree at no cost, just to get it out there.

My thoughts were, once the V5 comes I'll put her on Autotrader / Ebay and get it done.

I got a call the next day from a guy called Billy in Fife, seemed like a nice guy asking if he could pay £5500 to take her away. I politely declined saying that I believed due to the amount of work done and condition she was worth every penny I was asking and would not take a penny less.

I had a call from him the next day agreeing to pay the full amount and when could he see / collect the car?
At that time I had to advise him I was buying a new car on Saturday and would be travelling down in the X358, so Sunday would be the first available time. He agreed to come on Sunday to view / collect her all being as stated.

Peter and I arrived home yesterday tired and happy, Peter had really enjoyed the ole girl on the way home and I the new car.
I spent time with family and friends as you do, phone calls / texts etc and before you know it the night was gone....

I received further text info from Billy re the potential sale of the car, here is the process verbatim.....

Friday night from Billy - Sent £1 as a test to your bank account, if you want to bring the car through Sunday I'll put the rest of the cash in, I trust you and car will be as you say, just let me know if test deposit arrives ok. Thanks Billy

Friday night Me - Hey Billy, just had £1 in from you, all good. My address is as follows ************* If you want to come through Sunday around 1pm I can talk you through the car, you can check paperwork and test drive to ensure you are happy. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. If you go ahead I'll follow you back home with my wife or son to drop the car off for you, no problem. How does that sounds? Jim

Saturday Me - Hi Billy, just got back late afternoon with my new baby, what a machine. I took the x358 for one last roadtrip, one last adventure together and she performed flawlessly. She'll be washed n cleaned ready for you to view and looking her best tomorrow. See you around 12pm or so? Any problems or anything you need simply call me anytime, thanks. Jim

Saturday Billy - No probs will prob transfer funds tonight or in the morning before I leave, probably 11am don't know how long to Cumbernauld, I will text when leaving

Saturday Me - Thanks Billy, you can wait and transfer the money when you get here, it's no problem. I want to ensure you are 100% happy. Look forward to meeting you tomorrow. Jim

Sunday 09am Billy - Transfer done, would it be ok if I got there around 11.30 s I've got the grandkids here and want to take them for dinner, cheers. Billy

I checked and sure enough the completed payment was received in my bank this morning!!!
All this without seeing / touching or test driving the car!!

I was under pressure and so got with it and got her all washed n cleaned ready to go, CD's removed along with everything else, boot emptied, shined and tyres blacked, interior gone over, all door shuts and engine bay cleaned too. I eventually sat down for a coffee around 11.50am just as he turned up.

As I was on the phone to insurance I welcomed him briefly and gave him the car keys to check it out for himself. He gave it a cursory going over whilst I finished my phone call and went out to see him.

We chatted a while and I was telling him about the car and everything its had done, all the extras etc and oil changed around 3-4 times per year. Yeah great he said.
I've changed the tyres a few months ago, they're like new, rear calipers etc done , new brake pads and more recently. That's fine, thanks. I almost felt like I needed to sell him the car although he was absolutely fine with it.

Ok I said shall we go for a test drive?
No he said, that's fine, I'm sure it'll be all good!

We come inside for a coffee and check the paperwork.....big bundle of many receipts etc. yeah that's great, he says.

I remind him again that the V5 isn't present, it 'll take a few days at best to get here, No problem he says, can you just forward it onto me?
I'm a little fazed by this but say yeah no problem.

It ends up with me following him in the X358 whilst Tress follows me in the X type around 40 miles to his home, park up, job done.
Tress and I leave and head home, sale completed.

This has to be one of the easiest if not THE easiest car sale ever and I must have the most trustworthy voice / face ever lol
Anyone else ever had a sale so unbelievably easy?

The other thing is I had around 5 phone calls asking about her after the fact, so could probably have sold her a few times over.

The plus side is I mentioned about Crieff. He seems interested and may pop along with her to the meet, that would be awesome
I gave the ole girl a wee pat on the haunches and a lingering look as I left, many happy memories

Jim
