Maybe you have something special or modified?

(they appear to have higher sides, other than that hard-to-tell)
They look identical to the ones I took out of my XJR.

I would say the leather on my "new" VDP seats seems softer than my original and of course have contrasting pin striping.

Well that's interesting. Why did you take the seats out of your XJR?
I mean, I agree they are good enough for the lounge...

I wanted the VDP look including the rear trays and screens.

So replaced the seats and installed all the wood surfaces everywhere.

Thanks!
In which case, LWB should be no problem?

My 06 XJR was totaled this year, got rear ended too!! I kept it for parts (took the hit on payment from the insurance). I bought an 05 Super V8 and have been restoring it pretty much.
The XJR was my most reliable car for 30k miles until it was taken from me. I highly recommend keeping your VDP for parts, then maybe sell it to a used parts dealer.
I love the reliability and of course performance of the supercharged V8 and I love the comfort of the VDP/super 8.
I had to drill off my super 8 wheels (Detroit owned) and nicked the lug stud holes so I had to swap the wheels. So now my super 8 has the 20"s and it still rides softer than the XJR with the 18s that were on my super.
I still miss my XJR sometimes because it has less miles (130k now) and it was better taken care of before me, but I can tell I'm going to love my super 8 even more when I'm done because I actually wanted the comfort ride and the super's seats are more comfy too. I do a lot of driving and these are my daily drivers.

I have a 2008 Porcelain VDP with the 4 zone climate control and chrome sabers if your interested. It has 67k miles and i'm asking $18,500 for it. Let me know if this interests you and I can send pics.

Have you tried to abuse an XJR? Not sure why you would say that.

You could always buy yours back from the insurance company and have it repaired privately. Probably still come out on top financially.

First off, I feel your pain. I lost a beautiful 06 VDP in Radiance Pearl to a falling pine about three months ago. I struggled with whether to buy an XK8 or XK, then after driving a convertible version and sitting in one of the coupe’s, decided that big sedans were for me. I conducted a nationwide search and frankly found very few ‘06-‘09 XJS that were either near me, or met my personal picky criteria ... such as demonstrably having had the transmission serviced at 60k. Heck, most were well over 100,000 miles. I saw one at 258k miles.

My take on the XJR is that the front suspension is going to get chewed up a tad more frequently because of the extra weight, brake pads/rotors and especially calipers are going to be far more expensive, most especially the calipers. The mileage doesn’t bug me, though I did like getting 27+ on the road.

I wish you well in the search. I opted for an ‘03 VDP I found a couple of hours away with a whopping 29,862 miles on it. Pristine. I say that calipers are expensive because, in having my shop put on pads and rotors on the ‘03, they wanted to know if it had the supercharger or super duper suspension on it. A single caliper for the fancy suspension option was fractionally over $1,000.

No i haven't, but burn outs tend to play hell on transmissions.
Drifting in corners, kid type stuff wears hard on things in general.

Default Purchasing Choices

Good morning Yellowbandit,

We currently own two 2008 XJ8L's. One is a Vanden Plas the other is a Super V8 (aka a Vanden Plas with the XJR 400hp SC V8). Yes they are getting very hard to find a good example but well worth it for Old School Jaguar beautiful elegant styling. I would search Auto Trader or Car Gurus online Nation wide search.

My preference would be 2008/ Early 2009 XJ8L Super V8 or the extremely rare early 2009 Porfolio Edition. Even rarer.
There are a couple of YouTube videos on its Debut at the Geneva Auto Show.

Good luck, If I can be of anymore help on your search please let me know.

Charles

I don't think XJR owners typically are boy racers. There aren't many people with the skills to drive fast enough to drift one
through a corner. And don't forget the XJR had a way stronger transmission that the XJ8 which was a real weakness in it. In fact that is a good reason to choose the XJR right there.

They all use the 6HP26. You’re thinking about the 308 where NAs are to be avoided at all costs.

That is true however the XJR unit has beefed up components.

Xalty: Having just bought a 30,000-mile x308 VDP since I couldn't find what I considered to be a decent 350/358 within 1,000 miles to replace my destroyed '06 x350, I am curious what you mean by xxx "the 308 where NAs are to be avoided at all costs." What am I looking out for that might be an issue, apparently with the transmission best I can tell from this thread?

Many thanks.

They had lots of transmission failures. They have.a ZF transmission, the XJR X308 have Mercedes.
