VDP Oil Change - How Many Quarts?

Is this correct? I went through this and have found that 8 overfills the crankcase by a quart. I had to remove some with an oil extractor the first time I followed the manual on the oil fill. Having had some bad experience with a quart too much, I don't let it happen. I had a nice Ford probe with the aluminum 4 cam V6 that the dealer overfilled on every change. The foaming oil was dropping the oil pressure on long, fast trips (which I reported to the dealer) and finally toasted the hydraulic lifters at a very early age. I didn't find that they were overfilling until I started changing the oil myself out of warranty. I did get them to rebuild the engine.

I use about 6 1/2 qts with a filter change on an X350. I say about as there are two different sized filters. I have internal tech field data that show 6.5 qts. is correct for a 4.2L; MY2004. I don't know what All data shows as I don't use it, but someone here said it is incorrect. What does it say?
Why not just purchase 8 qts and fill what you need until the dipstick shows full (after an initial start/run), then you'll have some topoff oil, or you're on your way toward the next oil change need. I expect you'll have about 1 1/2 qts left.
