vibration and tires
I have been having a lot of problems trying to sort out a vibration in my 2006 XJ VDP. I have been combing through the archives and am aware that this problem is not that uncommon I have taken most of the recommended steps to try to remedy the situation with no sucess. I cannot help but be very suspicious of the brand of tires on my car and that they are the problem even though they are fairly new. I am curious of what brand of tire are on the cars which have this problem as well.
Thanks

Very low profile tyres such as are found on 18" and up wheels are more prone to passing road vibration through to the body. What size are your wheels ?
In general, the major brands should be OK, but the Joe NoName tyres from the Far East may not be so good. I had a set of Wanlis on my Rover 75 (16" - not all that low profile), which howled and howled around 70-75, but I put up with them as I was very poor at the time. I finally replaced them after 2 years, even though not worn out - they looked like lasting FOREVER !

I am very happy jaguar owner today. I have been having vibration problems on my 2006 XJ VDP that has been driving me nuts!
After:
New Tires
Tires rebalanced by dealer
New driveshaft installed by dealer
Road Force Balance
the problem continued.
Stopped by a local shop today to put the wheels onto a tire balance machine again to double check that the road force balance was accurate. The tech let me watch and we saw that there was slight wobble in one of the rims. The road force balance did not pick that up!
Changed out that tire with the spare and from the ride home on wet and slushy roads I am sure the vibration is gone.
I am convinced that road force balance is a good thing, but not always reliable.
Whooo Hoooo! Very Happy.

Watch those rims!
I had a similar issue on my '07 VDP. Very "tight" vibration at 50 and up. "tight" meaning it did not shake the steering wheel. It was a very high frequency (not the pitch, but the number of vibrations per second) vibration. It was such a high frequency vibration, I suspected a "u-joint related issue ('though they don't have u-joints any more). You could almost "hear it", it vibrated so much.
It turned out that I had two rims that were VERY out of round from potholes diving, and the other two were not so bad, but longer perfectly round. As I had all 4 wheels off the car, I just had the shop round them all again, and hey! Smooth as silk.
