Volume knob on CD player broke

Radio/CD player is a complete part, but you can probably source a new volume encoder assembly online as it is likely a pretty generic component.
That will require you to pull out the original, get some physical measurements and pin spacing and hopefully you can source a suitable aftermarket replacement that has a similar pulse count/rev.
I say encoder as nowadays most volume controls are actually just sending out pulses to the microprocessor that actually interprets the knob's movement direction and degree.
They are not like the logarithmic analogue controls of old that had hard stops at each end of their range of movement.
Note: the volume control also has a push button function as well as the rotary encoder function.

The CD unit is relatively standard Jaguar part of the era. You could probably scour local salvage yards for X-Types, S-types, and X350 & X358 XJs to pull fitting faceplates, or if you feel confident with a soldering iron, transfer a working knob to your existing faceplate.
