Default Water in passenger side door

2005 vdp - Had not driven the car for a while and heard a swishing sound coming from passenger side area. Parked the car and opened the passenger side door and noticed water coming from the rear rubber lower seal. Pulling the rubber seal away with finger out came a stream of water, doing the same to the front part of the seal water poured out for 3 or 4 mins. Obviously had sat in the rain and the only place that looks like it could get in is just behind the mirror at the forward end of the window seal. Looks the same on both sides and nothing in the drivers door. I'm thinking that a drain hole must be blocked but cant see one, only started draining when opened the door.
What damage could that much water do in the door? Would I be wise to remove the door panel and check for any damage and maybe where the water is getting in. Nothing looks out of place and the window seal looks to be in perfect condition. Has anyone had this problem with water in the door?

The problem obviously needs sorting out but the damage should be minimal

since there is a moisture barrier protecting the electrics and modules etc .

This barrier is a sheet of solid black plastic.

Looks like your problem is not unique.

There are drane holes, but you've got to poke around a bit to find them ! I found mine OK, but use a wooden stick not metal. I used the other end of an artists paint brush.

No door seal is absolutely tight, smaller amounts of water always penetrate. The problem is not the water that has penetrated, but the fact that it cannot drain off.

If it pours as you described it is recommended to remove the door panels and clean the door bottoms from the inside and clear the 3 drain holes.

Many thanks, where exactly are the drain holes? I checked around quickly, are they under the rubber seal?

I did the job recently on my XK8, where the long slots in the door bottom are along the edge, not behind the rubber seal.
