I have a pressing issue! When I swapped the original battery that the car came with for the new battery i had in my 04 xj8, i lost sound in the radio. It appeared the cd was playing but no sound. i checked to see if i was getting navigation voice and nothing there either. So me in my infinite wisdom, I held the phone and menu button to go into the (1971 code) sub menu and tried an update from the cars own software and now I have a black screen, and the screen that shows the temperature for the car keeps saying EXT51 and then 50. What did i do?!

Sorry for your distress. My first guess is that a fuse might have blown for some reason during the battery swap. Have you checked your fuses? Our member lukie just posted a handy manual excerpt with the fuse layout and identification for the '04 cars:

Do you know of any way to reset the navigation? I managed to get the music back, turned out to be a fuse so thanks for the info!

 

The navigation resets to the default country ... which for the European disc is Belgium. Presumably the US disc resets to a particular state ... which isn't NY !
