New Chrome on wheels?
Hey, "Its My XJR", can you be more descriptive about this process? who did it? Howdja find 'em? Did the wheels get more work than just the re-chrome? Cost? I drive past an Audi dealership daily that gets a lot of used Maseratis, MBs, Loti, and such, and see a mobile wheel refurb unit there once a week, and I've always wondered about the concept.

The wheels had been chipping/flaking for years. When I got new tires over a year ago, the Discount tire guy wouldn't guarantee they would hold air because of how bad the surface was at the tire bead. At the time he showed me but I figured he was trying to upsell, so I got my tires and left.
And they held air for over a year until one of them developed a slow leak. It would take a few weeks, but I was always topping it off. A local shop (In Oceanside CA) was recommended by San Diego Jaguar.
It wasn't cleaning or detailing, they actually removed the chrome, cleaned up the bead area by smoothing the surface and then reapplied new chrome.
I looked at new wheel options, but really liked the wheels it had....especially when comparing prices. The entire job for all four wheels was just under $1200.

Anyway, picked car up yesterday and job done OK. They also put some Waxoyl on the fuel tank straps for me. I had one rust through on my last X350.
Cost was £64.24 for the chrome trim, and £50 labour, plus VAT £22.85 making a total of £137.09
The previous week I had the minor service done for £199 incl VAT and they noted my two indicator bulbs were losing their orange colour so two new ones were fitted at an additional cost of £5.94 + VAT.
They send you a video of the inspection, which was when I spotted the tank strap corrosion, (not serious at this point). All in all I an quite pleased so far, and I even got an F-Pace courtesy car for the service ! This convinced me that an F-Pace was not for me, as being short, I could hardly get into the driver seat ! However for us short-asses, one can get the running board option which is a lot better.

Yes, it was done at Crewe Jaguar, a new dealership owned by Swansway, who also have the VW and Audi dealerships in Crewe. I used to use XJK in Newcastle-under-Lyme until they packed up earlier this year. This new place is only a mile from where I live. I had very good service last year from their VW operation for a service and a glass repair on my wife's New Beetle

BlackKat, what brand of headlight restoration did you use? I bought the Meguiar's, just need to do my 06 XJR next weekend. I was thinking of restoring the headlights without removing them. However, after seeing your post the little light bulb in my head went off. How easy was it to remove the lights??

Finished installing handles, sunvisors etc on headliner after repairing my sunroof yesterday.
Used the Lincoln repair kit as detailed in this thread :
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ir-how-129108/
.which was very helpful indeed.
btw to remove the headlites on an X350 you have to remove the front bumper. After that removing the headlamp assembly is easy.

The headlight restore kit was a Pittsburgh brand from harbor freight at 15 bucks. Removing the bumper is easy and only takes 7 minutes. FYI I only used the two less course grit sand wheels in the kit then the polisher. The grit are 500, 800, 3000 then sponge polish with any agent. I skipped the 500.
I also bought rustoleum uv protect clear coat spray paint from Home depot but have yet to apply it.

Relative to previous post, Now I carry a large screwdriver in the door pocket, as the air duct has come off of the throttle body twice more. There seems to be an interference fit between the front air scoop that is bolted to the crossmember that locates the top of the radiator, and the air duct elbow immediately above it. The scoop is always pushing up on the bottom of the elbow, so the elbow wants to slide off of the smooth aluminum of the TB, more than the ability of the circle clamp to prevent it. Since all of this has been out of the car recently for repairs, something must be mis-aligned.

Took it to the shop
I took it to the shop since it has been making a rattling sound when going over bumps. Thought it might be the front strut bushings deteriorating, thus causing the banging sound. But the shop says that there are no bushings, the strut is all one piece. So am waiting for a further diagnosis. I showed them the decaying yellow stuff on the right/front wheel well, but they think it might be "rodent activity." Not sure what would produce the yellow material, though.
Mystery material.
