Smile Air suspension sensors

I received 2 new rear Air Suspension sensors from SNG BARRATT today.
I will be replacing them on wednesday as long as it doesn't snow.
Time for me to do some research on the intricacies of how to replace them.

Default Winter wheel time, again.

The original Callisto wheels, fitted with my Winter tyres carried quite a few battle scars, some of which I will own up tp, so since the car costs me almost nothing to run, I decided to give it a treat this year, by investing in a refurbishment of said wheels, with a view to having the Summer Kalimnos done ready for when the temperature rises again.

A quick wash of the car, so that the wheels don't show the rest of it up too much:

since the gear was out, and the wheels off, it made sense to clean accumulated mud etc from under the wheel arches, around the brakes and suspension, and make a general inspection for wear / damage; none found, happily.

I'm not convinced that the wheel bod got the colour right; a bit too silver, but they do look much better than previously, imo:

I am also going to have to invest in new Summer rears for next season:

at the best price I could find yesterday of Ł234 each, it dampens my statement about the car costing almost nothing to run, but such is life, thankfully, I replaced the front ones last year,

Default Oilchange with engine flush

Oilchange with engine flush done .I do feel a slight difference ., smoother run, more reactive in the low revs unbelieveble acctually for an engine with over 350k km 218k miles
Liqui moly engine flush 12 min idling 20 min rest .
Letting the oilpan open for 30 min till the last drop car jacked only on one side , rinsed out with a glass of fresh oil , filter and fill up .
Even after the first 500km oil is still almost unrecognisable on oilstick

Not had this car for very long but driving daily, so just quietly getting caught up on maintenance and dealing with the odd faults.
Rear link bushes replaced along with one lower rear shock bushes yesterday.......so it could pass its annual "Warrant of Fitness".
One radiator hose also replaced due to gradual weeping through the internal webbing of the hose.

Just did plugs - yellow rings of no-confidence on the porcelain.
Trans fluid and pan/filter done the other week, to be sure it is good as there was no record of that being done by prior owner....definitely discolored.

Wheel alignment booked this Friday, to get ready for some Christmas holiday drives down south.

Default 2009 XJL - New Jag (To Me) Maintenance

  • New Spark Plugs by NGK.
  • Transmission Service (Filter Pan & Fluid).
  • Differential Service.
  • New Air Filter for Intake and Cabin (Denso).
  • New Upper Radiator Hose.
  • Coolant Flush Service.
  • New Front Rotors.
  • New Rear Pads.
  • Brake Fluid Flush
  • Swapped out the Steering Wheel for a darker wood grain off a VDP - mine didn’t match the dash or door trim as it was lighter and had too many cracks on the top wood which is where my hand usually rests.

  • DUCHESS IS SILKY SMOOTG AGAIN!!!

Default VDP Donor Transplants Installed

My departed VDP left a few things behind that came in very handy with my XJL. I finally got around to vinyl spraying the seat backs to black (matches warm charcoal just enough) and I installed the wood trays to give it her that last bit of elegance that was missing. Also popped in the shift knob, dyed the wool mats with a black fabric dry, conditioned them and they look great! Might dye them one more time for a darker hue. I installed the personalized VDP euro plate from my previous X358 but I have an XJL plate on its way. It’s more like a badge of heritage for the time being. Love the way the seat trays make such a big difference!

I took my 05 to a transmission shop to get an estimate to replace the sleeves and solenoids because my research told me that was the reason for my symptoms.
Jim told me to take it easy and let him check it out. In a little while he said that the connector in the rear was leaking and it was almost 3 liters low on atf.
he fixed it by replacing the connector and getting it up to level. It hasn't done anything funny since I left his shop.

Default No radio or CD audio

Just tapping into your thread since you seem to be knowledgeable in the audio area. Just took possession of my 2007 VDP and even though I can get audio direction from my Navigation, I can't get sound when I choose an AM/FM/Serius radio station or CD disc. Is there one cable from the amp that might be disconnected? Any suggestions?

Brought the car to an indie shop to have the dodgy brake and an *idle issue checked out.

After taking a look at the car, the shop advised a fluid exchange and a hard system reboot, and some time later, the brakes feels a whole lot better, and the car is more peppy now.

Regarding the idle issue, I'll give it some time to see if both issues are completely resolved.

*Idle issue: When stopping at an red light, the car idle began to fluctuate at random times and is pretty noticeable. Sometime, the issue gets too bad that the car almost stalled but managed to recover in time.

Unplug the MAF sensor (the engine will run without it); if the problem disappears, carefully cleaning the MAF sensor with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton bud may fix it, if not, the sensor is probably faulty.

Appreciate your response, Phil.
I will wait and see if the problem come back first, then I will try what you said .

Default Graphene/Ceramic Wax Treatment

The Silver Duchess received a claybar, polish and wax treatment. Used a soft polish pad (red) with Griots Perfecting Cream for the polish and Turtle Wax 75th Anniversary Graphene/Ceramic Paste Wax. After curing, I added a Chemical Guys “Concourse” paste wax for an additional “wow factor”
Results are out of this world both day and night!

I have older Jaguar 1989 XJS that has some scratches and areas the leather has dried and faded from the sun. What is in leather repair kit and where can you get the original Jag. color die. My car has like a burgundy leather interior, I think it was called Mulberry.
