So all that is left unfortunately is an internal transmission failure..

I traded my X350 towards a 2017 Nissan Murano. No worries I still plan on contributing here and getting another X350/358 - this one will have a working trans though...

New pads and slotted rotors all around. Akebonos on rear. After futile attempts to get the proper EBC fronts (most people assume Brembo with an XJR) I got a set front the dealer. Wow$$$$.
Replaced holed EGR - Throttle body coolant hose; fun. Car still leaked - replaced water pump, could have been worse. Of course no good deed... Now backup parking sensor is malfunctioning and on Thursday the sun roof jammed. I may have to keep the garage door closed while working. I'm getting a reputation as "the car guy".

The transmission fluid and pan had my attention last night. Ordered the kit from CTS and it was not a hard job to accomplish with a lift. My hat is off to anyone who has done this job on the pavement with jack stands, that would be tough. This was the first tranny fluid change at 164,545 miles. The fluid was dark, but not black, and it didn't smell burned. We used to joke around about putting a little Motul oil behind our ears for cologne because it smelled so good. Not the case with the ZF transmission fluid. The oil has about the rankest smelling odor you can imagine. I have washed my hands multiple times and can't get all of the scent off. Use the guide in the "How to" section if you want to undertake this, it is very helpful. Also, look at Youtube for videos which give some good tips as well.

Not that bad a job with jack stands, but a lift would sure speed the job up a good deal. Went the steel pan, & Mercon S P fluid, at 86,000, myself. Fluid & filter looked original, in good condition, except the plastic pan filter seal was leaking.Took it to the transmission shop, when finished, asked them to take the car for a test ride to see if any problems were to be found. Was told it seemed fine, and if level of fluid was right, should be fine for a long time. He would have used the pricey stuff just to be safe, & avoid any issues. Said the choice was not necessarily a bad one, as it was recommended by many, as an inexpensive substitute, with the same chemical make up, but red instead of clear.Said someone loved the car, as it seems to be in really great shape, for the year, and miles, amazed at how they do not hold value very well.Music to my ears.
