What exhaust system has a true european sound to it.
Im looking for an aftermarket exhaust system or mufflers for my XJR that has a true european exhaust tone to it. Kinda like a ferrari , maserati , something robust. I'm not a big fan of the magnaflow , or the other muscle car popular exhausts especially for a jaguar ( just my opinion).

You're not going to get a 'Ferrari' exhaust sound from our engines. The reason Ferraris and some other exotics have that sound is because their engines have a flat-plane crank whereas ours and like 99% of production cars have a cross-plane crank.
To get that kind of sound, you need to swap in a Ferrari engine.

I know EuroToys Ltd. sells a couple and once in awhile you can find them on Ebay. I have only met one person that has a Min exhaust. Most complain about the drone at 1800-2300 RPMs and he said it wasn't that loud. Also, a Ferrari is typically a 8-12 cylinder small displacement engine that REVS!! Totally different beast.

Ferrari sound, no. Mercedes C63 AMG, maybe.
Like SteveM says, we have a split plane crank. Ferrari's, Maseratis, Lotus Esprit V8, etc. have flat-plane V8s. The firing order on the later alternate from the right to the left cylinder bank whereas our and most other V8s fire irregularly, something like Right-Left-Right-Left-Left-Right-Left-Right-Right-Left...
This gives our engines a muscle car sound. If you've ever heard the 6.2L Mercedes V8 in the C63 AMG, it has a pretty bad-*** hooligan sound but still has some sophistication to it. This is a more realistic goal for you.
In terms of muffler types, I too do not like the way the straight-through Magnaflow-type mufflers sound. They are great for performance but their design absorbs and dulls the nice higher frequency noises, leaving a mellow characterless moan. I prefer the chambered mufflers like Flowmaster. They have a crisper, more raw sound.
One thing I noticed with the XJR's exhaust is that the second of the two resonators under the car (and presumably the first one as well) is a straight-through Magnaflow-type design. We'll have to kill at least one of the resonators to let those happy sounds out.

That's a tough one. Everything from displacement, valve and spark timing affects sound significantly. Here's my best guess to get that C63 sound. I provide no guarantees!
Delete the second resonator, and put in Flowmaster 40 series or 50 series Deltas (don't know which) in place of the stock mufflers. This should get you a really nice sound; HOWEVER, it may get annoying when cruising for long distances. I suspect the C63 has an active exhaust in which a valve in the muffler opens under heavy throttle to reduce backpressure and increase the noise. The valve remains closed the rest of the time keeping noise low. There's hope though. Dynomax may have a solution to this...

Flowtech has a more manual solution...

One more thing. If you plan on installing larger diameter exhaust piping, note that it will tend to increase the amount of low frequency noise and droning you hear. Also, if you install a exhaust cutout or bypass (like me ), unless the exhaust exits *behind* the vehicle, it will tend to resonate against the ground and the car creating a boomy, unpleasant sound in the cabin.
