What size of winter tires to get?
Bought a '06 Super V8 "Portfolio Edition" (sedan) this summer. The car has 20" wheels (vs 19" for standard Super V8's). My Jag mechanic recommends I get 18" inch winter wheels/tires (gets snowy here in the midwest). I'm afraid the 2 inch drop in size may look weird. Would 19" winter wheels be MUCH worse to drive in the snow than the 18" wheels? Thx!

I drive on 19" inch rims in winter. You've got to watch the tire you get - it might rub. But if you get the ice tires rather than snow tires they typically have tread similar in size to regular tires.
I've not driven on 18" rims so don't know the difference.
They do fine here in snowy Alberta.

I have a 2005 XJR with summer tires on 19'' wheels. Being in Quebec, Canada winter tires are a must and I have bought 18'' wheels on my car and they look really good while giving me the clearance I need for all the snow that we get. Another advantage is the price of the 18'' winter tires compared to 19''

Guys, I'm having a problem. Hope u can help. Went to the Jag dealer to order WINTER wheels/tires for my '06 Super V8 Portfolio Edition. This car has 20" stock wheels. They could not find 18" wheels anywhere that would fit this particular car (including Tirerack). I guess because of the bigger brake capilers it is an issue. Any suggestions as where to get 18" wheels that would fit a '06 Super V8 Portfolio? It will be snowing soon here in Wisconsin....thx !!

I have good news for you, 18'' wheels fit even if you have the Brembo brakes because that's what I have on my car. I got my wheels from a company in California which make copies of Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW etc and they fit perfectly on my car. I don't have the name of the company off hand but I will get it for you.

Hey there, I believe that last poster is right.
You should be able to get a set of 18" to fit but you'll need to watch the offset.....check what your offset is on your current setup and aim to match that.
If you were really stuck hubcentric wheel spacers with longer bolts would also help to do the job I think!
Although the 18" wheels may be quite a bit smaller the tyre will have a much bigger profile so chances are that overall dia won't be much different anyway

Just a word of caution if you are mixing wheel diameters on this car - the overall tire diameters of the fronts/backs on all four corners have to be very close; otherwise, you'll be spinning wheel sensors on one axle faster/slower than the other axle. The ABS/ASC system has only a small tolerance (less than 15% rotational speed difference, I believe) and then will set a fault.
That is easy to accomplish (18" / 19" difference) with tire size, and many tire sites have overall diameter calculators which will show the percentage of diameter variation. If it were mine I'd not exceed 5% difference on axles.

If u would have correctly read the first post on this thread you would realize that I did NOT want 18" rims........my mechanic recommended them. Hence the reason for posting this thread in the 1st place.
