Default Where did you buy your brakes from?

Hey guys.
I am driving a 2004 xj8. Time for brakes. Pads and rotors. What site did you guys purchase your brakes from? I think I am going to go with red stuff all around and I don't know about the rotors though. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I put the Akebono pads on front and rear of my 97 VDP and have had zero concerns. They dont dust like the originals and don't make one peep of sound. I did not do the rotors at the time as now i need to do them cause they have gotten thin. I have seen cars with the crossed and slotted aftermarket cheapies. I don't recommend them cause they make sounds like something is grinding. Stick with the solid face rotors.

Rock auto had great prices and the Akebono pads for front and rear for my 2004 XJR. Little to no dust and quiet as a church mouse.

If you want quality stock brake components at a reasonable price for your XJ and XJR try CarQuest Auto Parts. I say "stock" only because that's the route I went. They may deal in the fancy rotors and pads as well.

However, you would do well to avoid such pocket draining stuff for an XJ car in normal service IMHO. The stock spec. items offer optimum performance and price for the widest range of applications. Old argument, still true. So sorry.

Yep. Some guys will tune in to testify that the car really hauls down from 130 mph with ceramic brake pads while neglecting to mention that brake modulation has gone "wonkie" and well yes the 40 to 0 stopping time has tanked too. Well boys, most accident avoiding stops occur at 40 to zero.

Default $40 pads at O'Reilly

$40 for Wagner pads on the front at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Can't tell any difference in performance from stock pads. Less dust than stock pads, but still more than ceramics. But for $40, I'm a happy customer!

Default 2004 XJ VDP, just completed a 4 wheel rotor and brake pad replacement

I just completed a 4-wheel brake rotor and pad replacement on my 2004 XJ VDP. I searched the web and major part chain stores wasting a lot of time, then just called a local import auto parts store. Metro Auto Parts 414-259-4100. $317.92 for everything.

Front rotors Centric Premium@ $62.00 part #120.61077
Rear rotors Centric Standard@ $32.83 part #121.61062

Front pads Centric Posi Quite ceramic pads@ $60.00 pr. part #105.09330
Rear pads Centric Posi Quite ceramic pads @ $51.40 pr. part #105.09440

Also available at Brakewarehouse.com if you can't find locally.Vehicle:2004, JAGUAR, VANDEN PLAS, V8-4196cc 4.2L F/IPosi-quiet Ceramic Brake Pads W/shims

More expensive... shop local!

The front wheels are typical with the use of a clamp to push the pistons back. The rear however will require a special rear caliper piston retraction tool. This tool actually turns the rear pistons in. You cannot push the rear pistons in with a "C" clamp! The tool works great.

The rear caliper tool is available for free use at a local Auto Zone parts store with a $60. refundable deposit.

The final result is the car now drives great and stops with no grinding squeaks or pulsating. Good luck
