Default Whining engine

I have an intermittent whine in the engine and am assuming it's an idler pulley.

Any one with experience of this?

100k miles on the clock now.

it's still a 'clock'. lol

Tensioner, idler pulley bearing, & belt, should handle it.
Just as long as its not something else, that's squeaking.
Thats how i got rid of mine

Looks like there is a tensioner with pulley, and a separate idler pulley.

I assume that these two pulleys are the same?

The pulleys are the same, at least in the year cars I have had (06 & 07) - I have always replaced the full tensioner part, including the pulley, but I assume the pully can be replaced individually - reverse/left hand threaded. Here's some info to help. You should inspect and replace the serpentine belt while you have it off the car. Not expensive, compared to a broken belt, which is not fun - water pump, AC compressor, air pump, alternator and a good change to overheat the 4.2 (not advisable)

The work is easy if a bit tight on space, I use a serpentine belt tool - long, flat rod to reach and release tension on the belt. but a friend has done it with a ratchet in a pinch. Not sure if the aussies have this, but in the states, you can rent them for free (basically buy it, and return when done for refund) at many auto parts stores.

Part # for Idler Pulley = C2C37064
Tensioner = C2C36146
Serpentine belt = C2C37063

Accessory drive belt idler pulley retaining bolt 25 Nm - 18 lb ft.
Accessory drive belt tensioner retaining bolt 48 Nm. - 35 lb. Ft.

Let us know if that cleared up the noise. I get a bit of whine from the AC compressor, had it in both cars, but its fairly quiet.

Default Maybe AC

Try shutting off the hvac completely. Once things are thoroughly warmed up, I get a faint whine much like a power steering pump. If i turn off all hvac, it stops. I assume my compressor makes the noise. Don't automatically assume your problem is the drive, it could be an accessory

Thanks for your suggestion.
I was looking for a zircon Jag before the Platinum one came along.
My Healey was opalescent blue (an old Jaguar colour) originally

I like the 'poised stance' Ian Callum gave to the X350!
