And you wear that smile everytime you get in it
And you wear that smile everytime you get in it
Its a pretty logical answer
You waste your early years buying other types of cars that other people recommend
Then one day you say I am getting a car I actually like dang everybody else's opinion
Next thing you wake up one day owning a jaguar and wonder why you didn't get one sooner(LOL)

Well, I test drove a 2008 Jaguar XJ8-L. It was what I expected. I was left feeling a little bit underwhelmed. Normally when I drive a car that I am really interested in, I get really giddy! Nevertheless, I want one!
Compared to my 1997 Lexus LS400, the car rides just as smoothly (I don't know why you guys complain about the air suspension), and is just as quiet, if not quieter. It is quite a bit faster, too, although not overwhelmingly fast. It does squeal the tires on takeoff, though, which is nice!!! The steering, in my opinion, is on the somewhat light side, but I find this to be appropriate in a luxury cruiser (I know a lot of editorial reviews criticized the steering feel). Also, the button layout is pretty nonsensical (I'm a young guy, so give me a day or two and I'll be used to it), and maybe it was just the car I was driving, but the radio reception SUCKS! The car feels absolutely enormous, which is great inside. But when trying to pull into a parking spot, I got the feeling that this isn't really a personal-sized luxury car.
However, this car absolutely drips with character. The interior, although somewhat outdated, feels very sumptuous and made me feel like royalty. And the exterior! On my test drive, I drove over to the Mercedes dealership and watched my own reflection in the glass windows. This car is absolutely gorgeous, and the proportions are just classic British luxury. Very very classy!
The car was not a Vanden Plas model, and it did not have a headrest DVD entertainment system, nor did it have a 4 zone climate control system. But to be honest, I was surprised that I really wasn't missing these options at all. The only thing I wish there was is a MPG computer (maybe there was and I just couldn't find it).
My fears of it being an old man's car have been put to rest. Actually, it may still be an old man's car, but I think it turns heads, especially in black. A 2006-2007-ish Jaguar XJ is definitely on my radar. I will be looking to buy in December or January. I can't wait!!!!!!!

The best advice I got was from this forum suggesting that I test drive an XJR when I was looking for an XJ. One drive and it was over. I narrowed my search to ONLY the R or Super V8 models. The car is unbelievable.
I'm 57. This is my 3rd Jaguar. My other car is an XK8. Love the XK8 but THIS one is the sports car. Nothing like the supercharger whine!
I was surprised, the XJR draws a lot more attention than the XK8 !

Agree with this 100%. It's always an old person behind the wheel! One time I saw a young dude driving one (looked about 25). I was next to him at a light and asked him how he liked the car. He said "It's my bosses but I like it".

Well there are several rationales for the X350. The first is "The Queen's Hat." To explain, which car will accommodate will Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II AND her hats? Check out Google Images. There she is with her hats in the Jaguars/Daimlers. There is even a picture of her DRIVING with her hat on albeit looking through the steering wheel.
Second, cervical osteoarthritis has an inexorable course. Getting into the back seat of the newer XJ earns one 6 visits to the chiropractor.
Thirdly, Doric columns may be replaced by iron I beams but class is still class.
Do you really want a Jaguar that looks so much like a Ford, a Kia, a Hyundai, a VW, an Aston Martin? The later is okay.
Lastly, the X350's are hanging in there. Just like us old farts...

I got my first Jag at the age of 30, a nice 04 XJR. I always had nice luxury cars, but I wanted something faster, so I bought some fast but not luxury cars, hated the cheap feels and bad rides so I searched for fast luxury rides, the first time around, my candidates were 06+ BMW M5, Cadillac STS-V supercharged, or 04+ XJR. Of course the STS-v I test drove already had a intake, exhaust, and was tuned, and over 500hp, it was a lot faster than the XJR, so I bought the caddy, bad choice, over 40 trips to the dealer in under 7 months, seemed like eveything electrical failed, so I dumped the caddy and bought the (supposedly less reliable) XJR, as they have never been know for reliability, but I have owned it for 10 months now and it has been perfect. One thing I kept going back and forth on when I was gauging the jag on other high performance luxury, the Jag had a much better smoother ride. By the way, I don't think I am old at 31, wait, am I considered old and dont even know it yet?

This is the Jaguar Demographic by model, by age
The actual median age of an XJ (X350) driver was 62 back in 2005. I would wager its a lot lower now with the X351. Found this, coincidentally a few weeks ago in a Jaguar Technician Training Introduction I will attach it for anyone interested, and its actually a good doc for someone new to the Marque, or buying their first Jaguar and wanting to know the highlights of the company history, such as the winning Le mans years and the amazing run of beautiful cars to come from Jaguar. Also covers the lean times, when they were brought under British Leyland shudder and the story of the creation of the famous XK Straight 6 that powered generations of Jaguars, created while "firewatching" on the roof of the factory at night during WWII, hoping the Luftwaffe wouldn't take out their entire manufacturing ability.
Crap.. I couldn't upload the document... too big, so here is a link to it for anyone who is interested in such things. Personally I have quite an electronic library of this stuff, thanks mostly to the availability of documents on this site!
Oh, and my brother bought an XJ12C in the late 70's and an XJS with part of his School loan for College. He would ave been about 20 or 21
Note also the age of Corvette owners... They are all old men. a) Because it took them that long to afford the car they always wanted. b) Because they are empty nesters now and can have a 2-seater as a daily driver. What is most annoying is how slow they putt around, all so they can say how great the gas mileage is. Kind of funny that these old guys are finally driving a true performance car, say what you will about the Corvette aesthetic, but all they care about is hyper-miling. Ironic, isn't it?
