Default Window Frame corrosion

Is this common? There is a lot of it on the window frames bubbling under the paint. I think the frames are aluminum as a magnet does not want to stick to them

Could you possibly post at a pic ? If they are "chrome", the damp gets under the outer plastic layer, and corrosion starts. This is very common on all cars with this kind of bright metal frame and not really much you can do about it. FWIW, mine are shiny black and I have had no trouble at all so far.

(if you can't get an avatar pic to load, it's likely to be too big. The limit is 80 x 80 pixels or 19.5kB - whichever is smaller)

Black painted aluminium trim. Does this kind of issue look similar?

It was the door trim on my XK8. This common issue is caused by poor priming during manufacture.

Have a look at this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...oor+waist+rail

Started by Keith Westra when he refinished his Dorchester Gray XK8 Door Waist Trims, I added further details on doing the same with my satin black trims.

It may give you some idea on what can be done to rectify this kind of damage.

I think I've been unlucky with the trims on this one. The car spent the first six years in Ayr and the climate there can't have helped.

My last XK8 was from Surrey and the trims never had a mark on them.
