washer fluid has stopped but the pump is making noise. Have used tyre compressor and blown air down from wiper end resulting in bubbles from filler to reservoir so all seems to be connected any ideas as getting to any of the reservoir seems impossible without dismantling half of engine bay

I had this on my X350 a couple of years ago, I actually thought the pump impeller had broken off the spindle as I could here it spinning. Anyway, I took it to the dealer and thought I may need a new pump ( I did look at where it was sited as in the past it might have been a job I was prepared to tackle myself but it is rather tucked away), anyway it turned out the filter was completely blocked with gunge, they cleared it out and all was sorted, not been a problem since., I think, from memory, it was about an hours work, cant remember if the access was through the wheel arch liner or from above.

I also had a similar experience a couple of years ago. No water at all coming out of the jets so I presumed the pump had failed. I bought a new pump in readiness but once I'd removed the washer bottle it was clear the bottom was filled with a strange "gloop". Cleaned it out and was OK again.
Access is through the wheel arch and wasn't particularly difficult.

Hi, I had a similar problem with gloop in the washer bottle. I got a hosepipe, switched it on full blast and jammed in through the top of the washer reservoir. I let it run for a bit so all the gloop would be dislodged and have never been troubled since. It might be worth a try before taking the washer reservoir out.

Thanks to all who replied to this. I took Allginandjags advice and flushed the reservoir out with a hose pipe and am glad to say this appears to have solved my problem.
Does anyone know of an addative that can be put in screen wash to disolve this gloop ?
