Wobble at high speeds
My 08 Vanden Plas has a "wobble" when on the highway. So much that its difficult to put your head back on the head rest.
The steering wheel doesn't shake or wobble.
The tires were balanced (twice) and has bridgestone potenza re960as mounted on the rims.
Any suggestions?

Does it wobble when driven over bumps?
Mine had some issues when driven over the bumps, the rear end felt unstable due to strange side to side wobble. The garage was unable to find anything wrong, but we did the alignment (front and rear) and there is no wobble of any kind now.
hope this helps.

The intensity doesn't increase the faster I go. somewhere between 55 -80 is when it starts to happen.
the rims do look like it has it a curb before in the past. the tires are supposedly only a year old.
No indication if its one side or another.
Can I go to a simple tire shop to have the rim, tire, and ball joint looked at?

Sometimes the front end seems loose when I drive over bumps at slow speeds. Kind of feels like a hollowing out response from the front and steering wheel.
I will definitely take your advice about getting an alignment. My dad suggested the same thing too.
thank you!

In all my years of driving and wrenching dozens of project cars, high speed wobbles have always been a tire issue. Even balanced tires will wobble if they have a flat spot, bent rim or a sidewall bulge. The problem with tire balancing is that the tire is not making contact with the road while being balanced. Alignment problems or loose suspension parts might make the wobble worse but they won't be the source of the problem. I'd usually notice a worsening of the wobble while on sweeping freeway turns. I wonder if other members have had similar or differing experiences.

I took the Jag to a tire shop. They noticed the tire tread were worn out on the inside. They recommended new tires & an alignment.
Im thankful for your reply as I really didn't want to buy new tires. But I guess that's what it needs.
they suggested Pirelli PLT Cinturato or Micellin MIH Pilot Sport.
any preference here? Ride comfort is what I'm looking for. It doesn't snow or ice here

[QUOTE=jwburch21;1748171]I took the Jag to a tire shop. They noticed the tire tread were worn out on the inside. They recommended new tires & an alignment.
Tires wearing on the inside indicate that they were "toeing out" which, if serious enough should have indicated that with the steering wheel twitching back and for in you hands as the tires were scrubbing against the road surface. It shouldn't cause a "wobble". That would be more consistent with a ball joint or suspension related problem if mechanical or a tire problem from some internal breakdown in the tire construction.
Of course all these suggestions are based on our 'individual' definitions of what a "wobble" consists of. My experience in 55 years of driving says a ball joint going bad can set up a MAJOR front end shimmy after a bump or major road surface change that will have you saying Hail Mary's. A wheel and tire out of balance will cause everything from a seat to vibrate and shake to the steering wheel bouncing up and down (as opposed to twitching back and forth from miss-alignment).
Your mileage may vary of course<G>

I switched the tires to Pirelli P7 Cinturato, balanced, and aligned. Rims were not bent though all five show superficial damage. The ride does seem smoother but I haven't done major high way driving yet. My plan is to take it to Jaguar mechanic for a full post purchase inspection. By the way it sounds from the replies, I need to get the ball joints/suspension examined.
