Would You Buy a XJ8 or XJR with a 100k if it was properly Serviced and Maintained

2005 XJR with 134k miles, fully loaded with back seat air cond, headrest monitors, etc. that I recently got for $5,600. Perfect shape cosmetically and mostly mechanically.
Soon after buying I had some issues to deal with (SC water pump, replacing one of the cats, new radiator and radiator fan). Biggest issue for me has been the ridiculous cost of OEM Jaguar parts. $600 for a radiator fan, really?
But no doubt worth it for the enjoyment. I'm a big believer in finding the highest mileage, cheapest, nice example and getting that.

I agree with the work is there and if not done by the previous owner(s) then you will most definitely be in for this 100K plus services. Most Jaguar owners are very proud of their cats and will be very happy to share the service records on them, both of mine did and they were very complete and I most definitely looked for the 100K plus services (new CATS, Transmission and coolant service, spark plug replacement, coolant hoses, thermostat, etc.) Most of these items need to be done around this mileage, so look for ones with most or all of this done, otherwise plan to do it yourself.

Purchase one over 60k miles strictly for the grace and pace, and set aside at least $2k a year for maintenance you will need it. Also purchase a code reader and check it every few months, and hopefully you don't live far from a factory service center.
I purchased a 2006 XJ at 40k miles and now have 94k miles on it and a lot of quality time with factory service centers. It was worth it there still is no better looking and operating vehicle.

Still having great driving experiences in my 2005 XJR. Now at 109,000 miles.
The only electrical problem I have had is a duff parking assist module which I just replaced in 10 minutes with one I bought on Ebay for $30.
Oh one HID bulb went which was no big deal either.
I still have original air suspension which works perfectly.
If you cannot do work yourself or have access to a really good indi with any luxury car this "old" then expect to pay a lot.

320,000 km and still going strong on the xj8. Having some sensor issues right now but great car. Older xj8's need the a drum of the tranny and new chain tensioners. If that repair has been done then you are laughing all the way to the bank. I have had mine for 10 years now and total cost if I scrapped the car now is less than a thousand a year.

I'm nearing 170k and I can tell you that if I did not do my own wrenching, I would not be able to afford this car. That being said, I am very **** about maintaining it and so I go to extra lengths to replace and refurbish things in order to keep it running as close to new as possible. I spend about $2-3k a year on maintenance, parts and upgrades...which is still less than a new car payment.

I had to replace my beloved XJ8L due to a person using it as a stop sign, so looking for a temp replacement, found a 05- S model with 101K on it. Same 4.2 engine---and it runs like a top, so much so I've decided to keep it.
So, this has changed my mind about cars (Jaguars) with over 100K. As long as it has been taken care of in a reasonably good order, that engine is bullet proof--in my opinion.
Cheers

I would, and did. I bought a 2004 Vanden Plas a few months ago with 111k. Its an amazing vehicle and its in great shape. Its a wonderful car.
The PO had service records going 8 years back. Many issues I was looking for had been repaired, for example all 4 shocks had been replaced.
At the same time, I have years of experience working on vehicles and I am capable of doing 99% of the repairs myself. So that is a factor.
If you can wrench, and you did the research on what problems you can have, and it has a good service history, then yes.

However, It came with no service records and a number of problems and I have spent $2900 over two years (excluding gasoline) for registration, motor and tranny mounts, air suspension compressor rebuild kit, water pump, thermostat, battery, two new tires, i930 and Ultragauge code readers, and various small items. Altogether the total cost is up to $9,300 with me doing all the service and repair work.
So...maintenance cost of $2,900 for two years and 12,665 miles is 23 cents a mile and hopefully will be less in the future as many of the needed repairs are done. Not too bad for a 400 Hp car that gets 24 MPG while traveling in the lap of luxury (knock on wood)

Definitely tempting.....if I didn't already have an 06 Sv8 I bought off a lot in Houston two years ago with 126K miles for about the same price once I added the $430 in travel expenses.

The only other issue I had was the upgraded super charger where I had to reinstall it twice after the initial installation.
On night runs from MD to MA I get an average 26 mpg round trip from an engine that probably makes 430hp at the crank.
My buy was a single owner car.

I part-exed my 115k mile 2003 XJ6, and it sold pretty quickly at the dealer who took it in. I have no doubt that car will go for another 100k at least. So why did I get a younger car ? Well, being a 2003, it had a few issues that seemed intractable and I didn't want to spend the money sorting them out.
So now I'm running around in a 2007 Sovereign , four years younger than the previous X350 and I'm happy. The only thing I don't like is the 19" wheels that give an even harsher ride to the 18" on the old car.

ditto on the 19 inch wheels. Much harsher ride than my 87 XJ6 with 15 inch wheels and a lot more side wall, but the 2006 is a quieter ride.
