Oldie but goodie!
This Thread is now many years old. I’ve owned now five Jaguars (Primarily XJs). 150K (In MY opinion) is close to the limit for most owners unless they’re competent mechanics!
Starting from an 88-1/2 XJ6 I can speak with experience they’re more complicated and difficult to maintain each & every year! It’s as though someone finds what we can fix ourselves easily enough and redesign it so it more likely requires a mechanic‘s employ!
Think I’m exaggerating?!? My old Jags had a very smooth ride WITHOUT an Air Suspension (With so many manufacturer’s used they spawned a new ‘coilover replacement’ industry!) And heaven help You if you’d like to change your spark plugs because now it’s ‘coil on plugs’ for each cylinder! Why stick with one computer?!? Let’s add more!!!!
But at the same time, I fell in love with my first Jaguar XJ6 test driving on the freeway, adjusting everything to test it & realizing what I thought felt like 60ish was really 95!?! So quiet and effortless. Even the big sixes feel the same as a Jet taking off how you sink into the seat!
And not that I really did this but imagine catching up to a Corvette barreling by over 100 mph. You’d n probably realize going 140ish if one could ‘go to jail’ just for speeding THAT would be it; letting the Corvette pass & continue on their way! (Besides, wing windows on the last year of the 6 just don’t like it too fast! Rattle rattle rattle rattle!)
