Default X350 Air Suspension & ECATS Dealer Training Manual

Many thanks to Graham for uploading the excerpt of the Air Suspension and ECATS section I scanned from the Jaguar dealer training manual for the '04 X350 new model introduction. Special thanks to Jim also for his approval and friendly facilitation!

The title of the manual is:

Jaguar Service Training
Service Training Course NP04
2004 Model Year
New XJ Technical Introduction

This is a 28-page excerpt from a 3-ring bound manual used by Jaguar mechanics who took the official course to prepare for the new model launch of the X350. Thus far, it's the most detailed explanation I've found of the air suspension and ECATS systems. The other manuals I have contain abbreviated portions of this information and some of the diagrams. If you have even more detailed information, please share!

Here are the locations where Graham has made this Air Suspension & ECATS excerpt available for download:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...r-index-50609/

Thanks to Xag for his encouragement to scan this section. I am also attaching to this post a compressed smaller file version in case anyone can't download the larger file - thanks to Thermite for that idea.

I will be anxious to hear the thoughts of other members on this document, and if you have additional air suspension or ECATS information that has not yet been shared with the forum, I encourage you to do so as we try to master this most troublesome of X350 systems.

If anyone is interested in other sections of this manual, I will try to prioritize scanning those sections. Eventually I hope to scan the entire manual.

Cheers,

Don

I have a full 04MY XJ intro manual, but i can't upload it here, since a .pdf size is 11Mb.
So you can download it from my site. Here's a link:

MoscowLeaper,

Thanks for the link - another excellent resource! If you would PM this to JimC64 and GGG, I'm sure they will want to add this to the download library here at J-F.

I just realized I have a similar document for the 2004/05 model year that is 371 pages long. Not sure where I got it, but I'll check to see if it's already available at J-F and if not I'll send it to Jim & Graham also.

Cheers,

Don

From the following website you can download the August 2005 Jaguar Introduction Training Manual used by new Jaguar Mechanics. This download is 19Meg and covers XK, XJ, S-Type and X-Type. The X350, X355, X356 models are on pages 273 to 326. On pages 299 to 301 is an overview of the air suspension. Page 301 shows a cutaway diagram on an air shock.

Thanks Don, MoscowLeaper and all for providing this invaluable information. Definately looking forward to the entire manual Don mentioned. The training manuals are simply a pleasure to read as they lay out all the logic of how the systems operate along with diagrams. They have already answered so many unanswered questions or unclear information regarding the suspension system. I would encurage all to take time to read through them and be familiar with the information as to be ready for the day a repair is needed or to simply help fellow members in need.

Here is the Jaguar TSB Air Suspension System Diagnostic Procedures to find an air leak. The other TSB talks about using Gotec as a leak detector spray but I say use simple soap and water, just don't get the soap and water into any air line.

Hi lcmjaguar,

I've searched for Gotec leak spray and have only been able to find U.K. sources. Based on the recommendations in the Jaguar manuals and TSBs, I thought it must be some sort of "water free" substance, but the brochure at the link below clearly states that it is "aqueous."

http://gotectrading.com/wp-content/u...5-brochure.pdf

Last week I had to have a tire on our daughter's car tested for a leak, and the mechanic at the shop where we stopped used a spray bottle to wet the tire. I explained to my daughter that he was spraying soapy water on the tire and that if there were any leaks, we would see bubbles form. The mechanic corrected me and said that actually it wasn't soapy water, but a solution that "will bubble up a lot more than soapy water at even the tiniest air leak." I asked him if he knew the brand or name of the solution and he said he didn't, that it was something he buys "off a truck." (I assume he meant a truck that visits the local mechanic shops like the Snap-on and Mac tool trucks).

Does anyone know what this special leak detection fluid may be, and where owner-mechanics can purchase it?

Cheers,

Don
