Well folks I finally got around to fixing my trunk(boot) electrical unlock problem. It was a case of three broken wires in the multi wire cable at the pivot point by the boot hinge. The latch Microswitch is located on the latch in the center of the boot and the likely hood of it being faulty I think is slim. The motor is also durable and can be tested still installed if you have some way to make the connections. You will need to connect to both pins since the motor is in a plastic housing and not grounded to the car through the housing. I took mine out and had small alligator clips that were insulated that I put to the pins and then touched to a 12V battery. My wife helped me with this as it take more than two hands to do this. If someone need detail step by step instructions let me know. The US Jags are a bit different then UK and Australian. My latch motor is a rectangular unit all in cased in plastic and the switch is mounted on the latch bracket. The switch costs about $62.00 and I swapped mine out just to be on the safe side but it really was not bad. It is also very easy to check it out. Use a VOM and connect across the pins with small clips and close the latch with the boot open The resistance should go to a very low level like .3 ohms. When you release the latch manually it should go so that it is open the meter should show you a high level like infinity. This means the switch is open and the motor can not be energized .
