Default X350 Instrument Panels

Hi:
I am trying to find out what the difference is between what Jag calls a " High Level Instrument Panel" and a "base Instrument Panel." But I cannot find anything.
Any ideas?

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X350 forum. Members here with this model will be able to help.

Well I presume the high level one is the one above your head where you keep your driving/sunglass?

I think this is a carry-over of terminology from other models (such as the X-Type).

There was only one type of instrument cluster used on the X350 XJ.

But on the X-Type there were two versions.

A High-Level, which had a large LCD display "message center" which could display detailed information and was part of the trip computer, and displayed full messages. (basically the same as used in the X350)

And a Low-Level or "base" cluster which had a small square display, and only showed the odometer and basic trip information. This was only in the X-Type.

It's not uncommon for JLR technical documents to describe a feature of a model vehicle as High even if there wasn't an option for Low.

Hi:
This question is based on my using the VIN Identifier from Ford. ETIS.FORD.COM
Here is an example of what I am talking about----the first one is from a 2008 Jaguar XJ8:

  • Rear Floor Carpet Mats
  • Less Side Window Film
  • Less Rear Window Blinds
  • With Bright Door Frame Moulding
  • 4 Door Saloon
  • Dual Pwr/Heat/Mem/E Chr/Pud Lmp Mr

This second one is from a 2005 Vanden Plas:

Primary Features Build Date: 18.11.2004 Vehicle Line: Jaguar XJ Body Style: 4 Door Sedan - Stretch Version: Series 35 Engine: 4.2L Damb NA V8 Gas AJV8-Jag Transmission: 6 Speed Auto ZF 6HP26 Steptronic Drive: LHD RWD Emission: 78/665/EEC Emission Requirement Air Conditioning: Automatic Air Conditioning Territory: (+)"USA" Paint: White Onyx Waterborne
Minor Features
  • Marketing Level 1
  • With High Level Instrument Panel
  • With Console Cup Holder
  • Less IP Facia Monotone Colors

  • Drv Seat Back Fold Down Table
I figure there must be some reason for this and since I am buying a used Jag I really want to know what it is all about!

My Super V8- High Level Instrument Panel
My old 3.0 X350- Base Instrument Panel

I wonder if it is to do with having adaptive cruise control?

Does the Super-8 have oak/ash piping (accent) in the Burl wood?

My pretty luxurious 2005 Sovereign NA also has the basic panel. I was wondering if it has to do with the dashboard of the supercharged versions, they have different instruments with logo I believe?

Guus
PS Just read the message above about a NA having the other dashboard so that's not it.

Then it might very well be the "Supercharged" logo in the instruments rather than the base Jaguar and logo.
