Well, for a start, you'll have to remove each strut and assess how each stud is fixed to the spring unit. I suspect they will be welded, in which case you've got quite a bit of work to do removing and then welding in new studs. Not an impossible job, I'd say. Looks as if far too much torque has been applied when installing these struts. All these studs are doing is holding the strut steady in the housing so need to be reasonably tight, but that's about it. The nuts are nyloc type so won't come undone.
Strange how ham handed, & just stupid some can people be.
Run into all sorts of issues when looking at, & buying used stuff.
Learned to appreciate a long time ago.
That this is why the price, is within my budget.
Seems I have expensive taste, but not the cash to match.
Most EVERYTHING i own, was purchased used.
In need of at least some, repairs, sometimes major ones.
Which were pleasantly brought up, in the negotiating of the selling price.
Gives me the feeling, (or the illusion) that i AM very rich, walking into my garage.
Or my old shack of a house, as well, for that matter.
Worth a lot more now, than when it was purchased.
Neighbor wanted to tear it down.
Then put up rental property on the 1/2 acre lot.
I experienced the same thing. I installed the ARNOTT coil dampers a customer brought me. The front ones had a few of the studs shear off about a year later.
I removed them and he sent them back to ARNOTT for repair. (I don't know if they charged him or warranty repaired them)
I got them back and they provided a page of instruction advising to use ONLY the nuts in the kit and NOT the original nuts Jaguar used.
I installed everything and the car has not been back to me with broken studs. I did not tighten the nuts on the Arnott as tight as I install the OEM damper/spring units.
Substandard run of steel, purchased at what appeared to be a good deal?
Arnotts well known, to take care of customers, from what i have read.
Major reason i purchased from them, was this factor.
They are into motorcycle suspension systems as well.
I do know they were fair with me, & my issues with a set of front air shocks.
So the thought of the installers over tightening being the problem.
Could very well be the wrong one.
