I have a 2004 XJR and the last original key and fob has disappeared to God knows where. I now have only the Valet key to operate the car. Went online; Terry's Jag wants $194 for fob and $146 for key. Per unit. No doubt the Dealer wants even more. Before dropping $700+ I thought it worth the risk to try an aftermarket unit at less than a tenth the price.** Here I run into two problems.
1) There seem to be two part numbers for the fob, C2C35283 (for the 315MHz unit) and C2C35284 (for the 433MHz unit). Both seem to be listed for 2004 XJs. Which one does the 2004 XJR take?
2) When checking the "compatibility" listing on eBay, the vast majority of the listings say they fit a 2004 XJ8 but not a 2004 XJR. Are they really different, or is it a case of the sellers being ignorant of (or too lazy to put in) the XJR?
I appreciate expert (or informed novice) guidance on this. Thanks.
** Though to be fair it has to be cut, which I cannot do, and programmed, which I think I can.

Reason: clarity
Hi Tigertank84,
The fobs for all the X350 and X358, and for that matter most other Jaguars of that period and many of the Fords are all the same.
There is a very detailed document in the sticky posts about keys, programming, fobs etc. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...now-faq-87749/
As far as frequencies go, here is the list of countries with their frequencies. Locking frequencies by country
I think the 315MHz fobs work for both low and high. My car was ex-Japan, and the fob I bought from AliExpress in China works just fine.
I also got the blank key and had it cut. My local independent Jaguar dealer programmed both keys as I only had one.
Hope this helps
The document I linked to has an explanation for the Tibbe key code, it just boils down to six numbers depending on the depth of the cut. I think the numbers read from the handle end to the key end. That's the number you want for cutting, the VIN isn't useful unless you are at a Jag dealer.
The luck of the Irish came through once more, and I found the missing keyfob. [Based on the location it was found, it seems the dog wanted to take out the Cat.] However, that mad scramble led me to realize I really do need a spare fob on hand. So I appreciate the responses (and any more to come) and will proceed with getting the spare.
