Default XJ 2,7TDVI Turbo fault RESOLVED

Hello folks, Ive had this 2008 XJ Sovereign for six months and other than silly little faults i think its the best car i have driven. but..... after boost starting it went into the dreaded "restricted performance" and has a turbo charger fault code logged, Im a technician and have located the driverside turbo actuator as the problem, as its not sold seperatley (so im told) I did read somewhere that the actuators can be repaired. Can anyone tell me whereabouts?

Many Thanks

Stu,

Default Turbo fault after boost start

Sorry for the delay, I thought I should post a fix.

As I own a garage I stripped off the turbo which was an awful job ! and found that the actuator rod had jammed, I opened the electric actuator drive and noted the arm had went to far and jammed, so I gently released it and applied some ceramic grease to the internal gearing and linkage and had no problems thereafter.

Hi guys

I wish i searched for this link first. I have had this problem and ordered a second hand turbo.

Just had it fitted today, but the fault is still on the dash board after having the faults cleared with a snap on computer.

Does anyone know what the problem could be???

Sukki - The Jaguar Workshop Manual reads as follows:

performance (right hand
bank)
VGT actuator circuit(s):
high resistance,
short circuit to
ground, short
circuit to power
Turbocharger vanes
stuck/sticking
VGT actuator failure
ECM failure
For right hand bank VGT
actuator circuit tests, GO to
Pinpoint Test G552276p2.
Refer to the warranty policy
and procedure manual if an
ECM is suspect.

Default Turbo Problem

After trying several garages in the area, who said they were unable to do anything, I took the car to our local Jaguar Agent in Nimes. The result was that they replaced both Turbos (Apparently Jaguar insist that both have to be replaced) at a total cost of €5044!! Extortion!!

No problems since then!
