Hi All,
2006 XJ8 VDP
Was about to go and replace left front parking light. Got the rear round plastic cover off and did not want to tug too hard on what I thought might be the lamp holder. Tried twisting and also pulling but no success.
Please advise how to proceed before I break something............
Thanks
Peter

I had the same problem the first time I tried to replace a bulb. I have a photo of the inside showing the park lamp and high beam mounting. The park lamp holder has two tabs that must be squeezed to pull out. When I first tried, I could only feel one of the tabs with my fingers.
Good luck.

It took me a few minutes to locate the tabs, I did not know what it looked like at first. I had a bit of trouble getting my fingers in the opening, to hold and pull on the bulb socket assy. I watched the bulb through the lens as I tried to feel where it was and when trying to remove it. ![Icon Saywhat](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_saywhat.gif)
I took the photos with the headlamp removed as I have to replace the ballast. I also checked and replaced all the other bulbs while the assy was removed. I currently still have the bumper, and left side headlamp removed as I am waiting on a ballast, chrome grill, and grill wire mesh.
I would like to replace the front valance but as yet, I cannot locate any.

I too tried replacing the driver's side parking light bulb with no success yesterday. It turns out that one of the tabs is located at 12 oclock and thus jammed against a rib there, so I could not get even my fingernail under due to both the limited access and the tab pressing against the top rib plus the fact that I was not so sure if you squeeze both tabs or turn them 1/4 turs as the manual states. I see people here stating it both ways; anyone knows which is it for sure?

Nelson,
The manual is completely wrong in this regard. There is no turn at all. There are two tabs, the upper one is against the top of the housing the lower one is the one you can likely touch went you reach your fingers in. The lower tab is the one you are worried about. You need to push that tab up toward the top of the housing and the other tab. At the same time you are pushing up (because there is a retaining notch) you need to pull out. I just pushed up hard enough that I could get enough grip to pull out.
That said, just pray they wire isn't wrapped wrong, on one of mine it had been replaced in the past and the person had hooked one of the wires when they put it back in, that was awful. 45 minutes an inspection mirror and forceps. *sigh* Just make sure not to hook the wires and jam them up when your putting the new bulbs in.

Thanks for that input! I got my 16 year old daughter to get her hand in the cavity and by pressing her forefinger and middle finger squeezing the two opposing tabs together, she managed to get the light assembly out.
You are right! the manual is totally wrong. Once I knew that, then I knew I was not going to break the assembly and could pull it out.
