Newly aquired;stupidly didnt try bonnet release before purchase[:@]
Recently serviced prior to purchase, so must of been working OK not too long ago.
Passenger side lever felt OK (resisted), but no click from bonnet catch.
Eventually pulled to hard and something gave. Looks like the mounting for the sleeve may have given at the lever.
So now have two problems - fixing the lever mounting, and whatever the original problem with the release mechanism.
I'm guessing it will need to see a dealer to be fixed, but I would be grateful for any ideas on what might have gone wrong..

Thanks both for the feedback.
Sorry - of course I should have said its right hand drive 2003 xj8, which (probably) accounts for the passenger side handle?
Replacing the handle soundslike a good idea(and yes, plastic of course). That way I get another shot at opening the bonnet (..or hood) before handing over the money to the dealer. I'll go easy this time![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Assuming sticky latches are the original problem is there anything that might help (getting someone to sit on the bonnet.. or poking some wd40 thru the grill somewhere?)

if the handle is broken where the little METAL ***** GO INTO THE HANDLE IS WHERE THEY BREAK. if you take the handle off you can grab the ***** with pliers and pull alot harder than the handle and get it to release.(at least Ive always been able too) Then you can lube the latches
