XJ8 Temperature

You won't get a 'true' reading without a scanner capable of monitoring the temperature sensors thru the TCM or ECM, the gauge is not accurate, and will often just jump from dead center when it overheats. I don't rely on it for much else.
My AutoEngenuity software monitors in real time, many temperature sensors (air, water, oil, transmission fluid, ect) its great for detailed repairs. I could get you a temp from my car, if that makes and difference to you.

If your temperature gauge remains around the mid point, you're NOT getting any warning lights or messages and you have verified your coolant level is at full capacity, my inclination would be to not worry about it.
Unless that is, that this is a newly occurring phenomenon. In that case I'd get it checked out.
FWIW, my 2004 XJ also noticeably warms up my garage after parking it but then so does my wife's SL550 so I believe your XJ is probably running at it's designed temperature.
