XJ8 and XJR mufflers different? In search of Mufflers
Hey guys/gals
Looking for used XJR mufflers. I just did the X-pipe instead of the two mid resonators and the sound wasn't loud enough on my 2004 Vanden Plas. In Fact it barely increased the sound I would say by 30% at the most. I saw videos of people who did the same job on XJRs and they sounded a lot louder.
My questions is are they actually different? or am I just imagining?
If you have your used mufflers and want to sell them please shoot me a direct message here on the forum and I will respond as soon as I can.

First I have an XJR
Initially I had a stock exhaust and added 100 cel cats
This increased the volume but not much but the tone changed
Latter I added an x pipes and removed the 3 center boxes
This is loud and has a rasp to it.
This would have more throat it without the cat changes
Latter I added dynomax VT rear boxes.
Under normal running its quite but when it opens up its effective open pipes
Ive since pulled the VT's off and put the stock rear boxes back in.
The plane is to spend some time tuning the noise with some resonators in the moddle and with the VT's refiited. No time for that now as other projects are in the way.
As for your question Yes the mufflers are different on each of the cars
THE EPC list different part numbers for Supercharged and NA cars cars for each of the models. There are then variants in the back boxes for supercharged models with Portfolio versions having a different back box again.
Cheers

Thanks for the input buddy
Do you know what differences there are in mufflers between the Portfolio Supercharged and the Supercharged ones (XJRs)? Basically which one is louder? lol
If you have any videos of your car with the different setups can you please share them or post the links if you have them on youtube?

I have a set of XJR mufflers, I went all Magnaflow & they sound great. You can hear the originals XJR mufflers at https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-delay-181492/ I have 200cell cats, X-pipe no resonators, I uploaded a movie before changing the stock mufflers.

not to sound bashing or anything but are you saying this from experience and knowledge or are you guessing?

i picked up a customer who bought new xjr mufflers thinking they would sound better than his na ones. They didnt and he wasnt happy about throwing all that money away. And he is one of the ones that then removed them and had them straight piped with the rest staying stock. Sounded exactly like want he wanted after that. Rumble without being obnoxious or loud cruising. Magnaflo, and glass pack stainless in place of the rears sounds similar.
