Assuming it's actually powered up..... you need to find the serial number of the unit. You can do this by pressing menu and scrolling down till you see serial number. It's a long 14 (I think) digit code.
You then call Sirius (look up the activation number online) with this serial number and they send a signal remotely to activate the radio (once you have signed up for a subscription)
I think if you turn the sirius radio to channel 80 you should be able to hear free music coming through the stereo. It works using an FM modulator, so you need to set the cars FM radio to the same frequency as the sirius radio. The frequency the sirius radio is broadcasting at is also shown in the menu.
To receive the activation signal, the car has to be in clear skies (so it can see the satellites), so don't try it in your garage.
On my unit there is a signal strength meter, also in the menu, which has 2 indicators...... TER and SAT. On my unit the TER signal (standing for terrestrial) is no existent....... this meant I could never get the radio activated, despite multiple attempts with Sirius technical support. I eventually gave up and just use Pandora instead
