XJR Engine with stand alone ECU
Good Morning folks,
I've got an 86 Series 3 XJ6 and I've been looking at a couple of XJR's on eBay toying with the idea of a supercharged V8 in my XJ6. I did some googling but could only find a guy that had swapped everything (loom, sub frames etc etc) from his XJR into an S-Type, couple of posts I could find on drifter forums and one about Jag V8 in a boat had comments to say the engine wouldn't work on it's own with a standalone ECU because of CANBUS?
Thank you,
Justin

Greetings Justin,
Interesting thread. I have been considering a stand alone/piggyback ECU myself just to have more tune-ability. I haven't done much research on the subject, but the shop I dyno at said they were sure they could make it happen.... for the right price.
I looked up some info online and found a couple sites saying that newer aftermarket ECU's are compatible with CANBUS-
"Plug-and-play standalone ECUs for these newer vehicles weren't available for quite a number of years. Fortunately, the performance aftermarket is embracing CAN and exploiting its merits. In fact, companies like MoTeC offer aftermarket ECUs that fully integrate with the vehicle's CAN bus."
Not sure how this would specifically apply to Jags, but I am sure it is possible with the tech that's out there.
