XJR vis XJ Super V8

I'm looking at both and will do a face lift on either, 2009 style body color grill and boot tail cover with full length chrome strip trunk lip spoiler. Will also add backup camera from 2010 XF.
Other than the obvious, wheel base and a few amenities are there any major differences between the XJR vis XJ Super V8? It's a Little heaver but I'm more interested in performance (not much difference I bet) and handling.
Anyone actualy had a chance to 'ring out' both of them?

The Super V8 is a Vanden Plas with the supercharged engine. For handling, the XJR is the way to go, but most Jag owners are not going to use their cars on the track. The stiffer suspension and short wheelbase will suffer the ride quality. In the Super V8, the longer wheelbase and softer suspension will give you a more plush ride with similar performance.

The biggest factor in handling of a passenger car is tires. I've driven both cars on the track but with different size tires and types it's difficult to compare. Since the XJR had 20's it definitely did handle better.
I have lowered my own XJR and that did increase handling performance without sacrifincing ride quality.

You would not believe the feedback I get when people realize that my XJR is perfectly capable of holding it's own on a track, dragstrip, and mountain roads.
Is your car an X350? If so, how did you manage to lower the car? I do not want to spend thousands on the Arden piggyback system for the suspension....

The procedure is relatively simple but needs to be done at a facility with a WDS and height measuring tools all dealers should have. You go the area in the WDS to calibrate ride height and add the amount you want the car lowered (within reason) to the actual measured height. This will trick the ECM/BCM into thinking the car is sitting too high and will readjust to what it thinks should be factory specs. I lowered my car about 1.25 inches all around. Only 1 hour labor.

Yes an '04 XJR would be a X350.

What about installing the XJR anti-roll bars (thicker) in a Super V8?

I drive an 06 SV8. Not much time behind the wheel of an XJR. Obviously, the SV8 has more rear seat room, which works well when you 16 yo son is 6'8". (2 M or so if you're metric). And SV8 has every option installed (except the dealer installed ones). Same engine, same brakes, suspension in between an XJ and an XJR, but does have CATS. I actually agree that the tires fitted will make the most difference in handling. And its kind of fun to blow most other cars away in a stretch limo. ![Icon Beerchug](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_beerchug.gif)
Can't lose in my mind. Just try'em out and see what fits (especially if you have a very big rear seat passenger).

Would you kindly post some pictures? It would be great to see what a lowered X350 XJR looks like...

Ummm - that pic looks an awful lot like the one Cinci has of his XJR that is listed in the for sale section. Link is here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=22315

I'm not that tall (6'1"). My wife isn;t either. However, many members of our families were in the 6'6" range and so my little guy is no eral surprise. Athletic? No. Mostly because he is averse to excessive effort (all formsof work really). Main thing is he didn't fit into the back of my car and so I had a good excuse to trade my 04 SWB XJ8 for the SV8.
