Default ZF 6HP26 Trans fluid capacity

Hey guys, I'm going to drop and replace the Trans filter and fluid on a 2005 xjr. How many quarts or 1 liter bottles of ZF fluid should I buy Seven?

Purchasing 7L is good even if you only use 6L. Be sure to only use LifeGuard6 or Mercon SP.

Lots of debate over the years but these are the only 2 viable options.

LG6 is OEM brand more than likely in your trans.

I bought 6L but it wasn't enough so I have one more liter on order. Here is a tip for you. In the final stage when you pump fluid in with the engine running at 40 degreesC....don't stop the engine until you have the plug back in...ask me how I know LOL

i have read 10 liter capacity for a rebuild .and 6-7 liters for a filter change .
mine took 6.1l and then 6.8l when i swapped to the steel pan conversion.

Just had my transmission coolant lines, pan, sleeves & fluid replaced. 7.5L of LifeGuard6 fluid needed to refill. Transmission runs so much better!!

Note that the only Mercon SP we're certain is equivalent to ZF Lifeguard 6 is Ford Motorcraft Mercon SP. Third-party fluidmakers like Valvoline claim some of their fluids can be used in place of Mercon SP, but when you look at their fluid specifications, they are quite dissimilar from Lifeguard 6 and genuine Mercon SP and should not be used in your 6HP26.

Cheers,

Don

Agreed and I wouldn't mix ZF with Mercon SP for a drop and fill, but rather a replacement (full flush). And FYI for the rest of us, 10 liters is capacity for the SC vehicles, 9.5 liter for the N/A.
