1995 XJ6 new alternator then 1775 code
I have a beautiful 1995 XJ6 with 75,000 miles. This car is a cream puff and I cherish it. Alternator starting going bad. I got it to my mechanic who installed a new (rebuilt) alternator. Now I am getting the check engine light with a 1775 Code. Please help. Mechanic says it is a transmission code and I am broken hearted.

That code means the transmission has requested the main ECU to turn on the light. You either need to reset ir and see if it happens again, or have someone with the proper software to read the TCU (transmission control module) codes. It is unlikely the alternator change caused this, unless it is only a nuisance code due to disconnecting the battery during the work. I say, get the ECU reset with a standard OBDII scanner, and see what happens. The XJ6 gearbox seldom fails early.
