1995 XJ6 transmission shifting issue

Hey guys I recently picked up a 1995 XJ6 with quite a few issues (almost all electrical) as a project. The issue I'm currently trying to fix is that in order to get use of all the forward gears I have to go straight from park to drive, if I stop at N or R it seems to put the trans in limp mode and I only get 3rd gear. And if i want R I have to go into N before I go into R otherwise R just seems to act like another N. Once it goes into "limp" mode, if that is what is actually happening, I have to put the car back in P, shut it off, and then restart, and go straight to D to get all the forward gears to work. I'm hoping this is an electrical issue as all the gears work great, and as long as a go straight to D from P it shifts and drives beautifully. To combat this I have just been reversing into anywhere I need to park, but its getting to be a bit of a pain as anytime I need to reverse I have to shutoff and restart the car afterwards. The car is throwing P0705(supposedly an input error from the Transmission Range Sensor), P0500(speed sensor related), and P1775(TCM triggering a fault) I am wondering if the J shifter is bad as the 3rd and 2nd gear selector don't work most of the time. Also the trans was almost a quart full when I got the car so I've drained some out and now have the correct fluid level but that didn't seem to make any difference. Anyone had any similar problems or have any insight?
