1995 XJR Stopped running abruptly
I have 132,000 Mile on the car.
First event: I put my foiot in it and it went bogged severly engine light came on for 1 1/2 seconds, the car tehn regained power and went all the way to 5500 RPM.
(Could the engine light be time chain tensioner? One code: Lean bank1, NO OTHER CODES)
A week later, I was driving car in warmed up condition.
Took it all the way to 5000 RPM and let off.
It abruptly stopped running. I have 49 PSI fuel pressure (I visually confirmed that Injector 1 is spraying), I have spark. At Both cams when marks are straight up,
#1 cam lobes facing each other inward at about "2" and "10" correctly.
I took top tensioner out.
Played with it and could not get it back it correctly. However it seemed as though it did want to start.
I am going to purchase a new Top tensioner when I get done cleaning 5 quarts of oil off garage floor.
I did locate and note the dot in the Camshaft position sensor before removing.
If excessive slop in chain, would I have timing events off enough that I would have what feels like low intake
velocity when cranking?
Thank you,

RE: 1995 XJR Stopped running abruptly
if youve checked for vacuum leaks and have none the lean code is almost always cause by a intermittent mass air flow sensor fault. another thing, pull off the throttle body and clean it with carb cleaner and tooth brush and pay attention to the idle air control solenoid and ports. If you have oill and carbon buildup on either or both it can lead to dying on sudden throttle closure if the IACS cannot comphesate fast enough to give air to the engine when the throttle slams shut, and with buildup around the throttle blades you no longer have a physical clearance that lets air around as it is only controlled by the IACS. So clean it and eliminate this as a cause, and on your tensioner, yopu cannot install it unless you have rotated it in to where it locks for installation. These tensioners seldom fail like the V8, but if you have the original with a steel cam shaped plate over it then do replace it as there has been an updated tensioner that is a 1 piece cover out for years

This is a typical symptom of a bad crank position sensor and it will not show up in the codes. I would put in a replacement. The lean code could be a number of things, the MAF as was already noted, the upstream O2 sensors, and an intake or vacuum leak. Take a look at the intake booting for gaps or loose or damaged vacuum hoses.
