1997 VDP Electical Issue
Today my 97 VDP had a major melt down. My alarm went off so I check on the car and noticed the sun roof was open and the radio was on.
What really got my attention was the smoke seen coming out of the car. I am not sure what produced the smoke but it is defiantly electrical.
Now the problem I have is the alarm will not activate Beeps like a door is open when locking the car. Radio stays on and the interior lights do not work. The fuse for the interior lights blows when you turn the headlight switch on. Int Lights worked fine before this.
Everything else seems to be working. Engine starts brake headlights work, windows up and down, sunroof opens closes, etc etc....
For the Radio I have determined the power relay that controls the radio and various other items is good. However the relay stays energized with the ignition key off. I have disconnected the ignition key connector with no effect. Disconnected the body control module, no effect.
I am not 100 percent sure but I believe the problem is related to either a short to or what ever device that controls the power relay in the trunk.
Do any of you kind people know what controls this relay?
Thanks,
John C

Well the news gets worse!
I've discovered the issue. The wiring going to the lights on the driver sun visor shorted and fried the wiring harness all the way to the fuse panel.
I still for the life of me do not understand how the ten amp fuse allowed this!
Anyways to the junk yard I go!!!
Thanks,
John C
