1997 xj6 unable to open trunk
Help,
I removed my battery to replace it and the trunk closed. the key doesn't do anything when i turn it to the right. I believe the linkage was not properly connected when the body shop replaced my trunk lid.
I looked behind the license plate into the slots for the vertical linkage, nothing there.
Any other ideas?
Thanks
Rande

On the left and right fenderwells in the engine bay there are small junction boxes that have a "+" post. You can hook up a battery charger or jumper battery to provide voltage to operate the electric release. There are "+" posts on the firewall as well. You'll see 'em under rubber protective boots.
In most cases the key operated mechanism has just seized up from lack of use. Once you get the trunk open just lubricate the manual key lock linkages with your favorite aerosol lubricant. I make it a point to exercise the key mechanism whenever I service the car. This keeps the linkages operational even though I almost never use the key lock.
Cheers
