3.2 Sport Tyre Sizes
First serious post....
Just bought a 3.2 Sport XJ X300 and it is fitted with 225/55 16 tyres. I am going to have to replace the rears in the not too distant future and wondered what the "best" sizes are to have?
I ask because a check on some tyre websites quote 245/50 tyres for this car, so am a little confused. If all else fails I will stick with what is on, but if anyone has any tyre experience with this model I would be most interested to hear it.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 3.2
It came with 16" wheels but I now have later XJR 18" Asteroid wheels on it.
I put a new set of Toyo 225/60 x 16 on the 16" rims and they were great.
I then changed to the 18" wheels. With Toyo 235/50 x 18s they didn't clear the front wheel arch - the diameter was 16mm more than the 225/60x16s. However with 245/45 x 18s, the diameter dropped back to the same as the 225/60 x 16s and it was no problem.
So you could go up to 225/60s on your wheels with no problems, but don't go bigger on the outside diameter.
I like the Toyos, but there are many options.

The correct tyres are:
255/45ZR17 on the XJR
225/55ZR16 on the 'Sport' suspension (standard on XJ Sport and XJ12, optional on others)
225/60ZR16 on the 'Comfort' suspension (everything else)

I think you'll find that all USA market XJ12s (and perhaps other markets?) were built with the comfort suspension and used the 225/60x16.

225/55ZR16 on the 'Sport' suspension (standard on XJ Sport and non-US/Canada XJ12, optional on others)
225/60ZR16 on the 'Comfort' suspension (everything else)
It's probably also worth noting the 55 profile tyre usually sits on a 16x8J wheel, while the 60 profile is on a 16x7J.
