Default 97 XJ6 Wiring a replacement dimmer mirror

Several years ago, I bought an auto dimmer mirror replacement mirror that has 3 wires (gray, white, black). I think it is a Donnelly. The mirror is safely installed in the vehicle. Now, I'm trying to wire it up. I can't find a 3 prong female plug connector in the overhead console. Has anyone seen this configuration before? If so, where should I be splicing in the mirror? ANY suggestions are welcome.

The only available 3 or 4 prong female connector in the overhead. 1997 Jaguar XJ6

Hi posh celt,

Your 1997 model XJ6 is either a X300 or X308 (you are in the crossover year).
You have inadvertently posted in the X350/X358 (2003 to 2009) forum area where the members here might not be the best source of help to you as they do not have the same model.

You might have more success re-posting in the appropriate forum.

posh celt, I've moved it to the X300 section, hopefully that's right.

There was a change in the mirror internal package and connector in the X300 series production

Along with the glass mount detach fitting

I can probably do a workaround if I can identify the 3 wire receptacle side. Any suggestions? Thanks for the fast response, by the way. I bought the mirror on Ebay a decade ago and got the bracket changed by my windscreen guy. I stopped at the wiring because it made no sense; just no 3-prong male connector in the comparment. I'm now retired & obviously have more time to waste working for a now defunct UK Labor Government and in the shadow of Lucas the Prince of Darkness. Seriously, though, I would like to get this sorted somehow. Regards.

Thank you for posting this. Interestingly, I don't know if I had the Auto Dim on the Door Mirrors!

gray - goes to brown/green(its reverse gear mirror switch off)
white - 12V positive, check with multimeter which pin has 12V, probably the one with white stripe.
black - ground, connect to black(check with multimeter)

I agree with your comments; I see that pattern also. I have a 1995 electrical schematic that describes a 3 way plug with a black female connector. I also have a 1997 electrical schematic that describes a CHANGE in this plug to a 4 way plug with a white female connector. That is what I think I'm looking at here. I will meter leads as you suggested and try a trial hookup tomorrow. I will let everyone know how it works out. Thanks.

Job done! Thanks for all the helpful comments in the X300 Jag Forums. There is indeed a change in the internal connector for 1997, which I was able to find and confirm in my own PDF Vehicle Services Manual.
The change was from a 1995 White 3- Way Multtilock to the White 4-way Multilock in 1997. I snipped the Multilock and traced the voltage to confirm the 3 wires needed to complete the circuits. Tight work area, but it is done.
The mirror darkens as designed. Thanks again to everyone who helped.

1997 Schematic for Mirror. (Side mirror dimmers are mentioned, but I don't see any wiring for them in my 97 X300 overhead console).
